    Need some gladiatorial inspiration

This is great stuff, Crust, thanks! You know I almost bought that issue a few months ago. I guess I'll have to now. I didn't want to make my initial post too long with all the background, but in fact the situation is kind of weird, so the question of how the fights fit into the campaign...

    Need some gladiatorial inspiration

My campaign world has a pseudo-Roman decadent empire, and I've long wanted to get the PCs into some nice Coliseum-type gladiator fights. I think I've come up with a way to corral a bunch of 12th-level characters and force them into the stadium, but now I need some cool/memorable opponents. I'm...

    Duskblade w/ Arcane Devotion

Yeah, I think he meant "extremely limited" number of Spells Known for the duskblade. Somewhat off topic, but did the Spell Compendium add any spells to the duskblade's spell list?

    variable movement and chases

I think it's a fine, simple start. One thing to note is that if you give slower characters a smaller die type they will trip more often, which hardly seems fair. My preferred approach to chases is the Hot Pursuit supplement. It rocks.

    Duskblade w/ Arcane Devotion

I'd still consider it. The ability to heal yourself is REALLY nice for a front-line type. Even a cure light wounds spell at the right time is handy, and the ability to use a CLW wand is maybe even more important.

AD&D PH cover art as wallpaper

Here ya go. I don't know if this is what you had in mind, but I just did a screen capture of the flash thing you linked to. :)

D&D 4E [Pre-4E] "The Shadow of Set" [Roster Set]

Looks like you're just missing an arcane caster so far. I'll jump in with: Avardis - Champion of Muir Human Battle Sorcerer 1 Avardis is a human follower of Muir. He aspired to be a Champion of the goddess (paladin) but in his youth it became apparent that his gifts led in another direction...

Why is the mid-level sweet spot sweet?

Yep. I define it as the PCs being noticeably better/more powerful than "regular folk," but not so powerful that they can ignore society with impunity. The PCs in my current group are 12th level and I fear they are about to exit my sweet spot, since the most powerful recurring NPCs in the...

    Spell Variant- Spell Chains

One way to keep from hurting the sorcerer is to let him swap out the earlier spells in the path when he takes the later ones. So when the sorcerer chooses teleport, he has the option of abandoning Dimension Door for a different 4th-level spell. That way, the character keeps the "teleporting...

    Spell Variant- Spell Chains

I think it's a great idea, but would require lots of work. I actually wanted to do something like this myself, but I'm too lazy. :)

Same as Felix. Except completely the opposite. :D

CLOSED: Recruiting Call for The Colour of Fear

Well it snuck up on me, but I am going to be out of touch next week. Starting Saturday, I'll be away from any internet connection (unless they run a line out to me on the beach :) ). Looks like it'll take you a bit to get to Jane anyway. See you on the 20th when I get back.

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows - POTENTIAL SPOILERS

Hmm. I think we have it! :) One other point, though: Harry did drop the stone. He left it behind, realizing it had no value for him. Maybe that's what made him its master in the end. Very zen. ;)

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows - POTENTIAL SPOILERS

The thing about the stone is that previous users had tried to bring back their dead loved ones. To defeat death. Harry was able to understand that that wasn't possible. He just wanted a reminder of their presence to help him make the journey himself. That's what made him the stone's master...

Fantasy Concepts: An OGL Fantasy Saga Project

I'm just going to chime in and say that I think the stat-based approach is the way to go. My reason is that skills are generally regarded as lesser abilities in most d20/OGL games. That is, while they are important, they don't define a character's power level the way that, say, BAB does...

    Storage for Individual Minis

Yeah, but if you only want to carry one or two, it's overkill. Ogrork's idea seems good. You might be able to use Altoids tins, too.

Simplified Wealth- an idea to lower d&d accounting

Actually I see where you're going with this. I do the same thing in my game but I don't bother tracking it at all. I know the PCs are wealthy (at least compared to normal people) so I don't bother with paying for inn rooms, boarding for the horses, replacement clothes, etc. Every once in a...
