    First look at Watchmen characters

Ok, I must be mixing up the characters. I thought the Silk Specter was Laurie's mother. Did she use the same name? Clearly I have to break out my copy of Watchmen. It's been too long since I read it.

Pitch me your ulitmate D&D movie

The nice thing about Keep on the Borderlands is that it's just a great title. You could add any kind of story to it you want (a heroic defense of the keep against all the weird humanoids, political machinations involving the unlucky noble sent to man the place, whatever) and the name and basic...

    First look at Watchmen characters

I think they all look great. Especially Rorschach, but his was the easiest costume to get right (other than the face, which ought to be interesting if it's done well). I even like Nite Owl. He's obviously armored, but no sculpted muscles (well maybe a little, but not like Ozymandias). And...

Gary Gygax has passed. RIP beloved father of RPG's. (merged)

I just want to say "Thank you" to Gary. Thank you for creating a game and hobby that helped get me through some very rough bits in my life, introduced me to lifelong friends and indirectly led to meeting my wife and starting our family. Also, thank you for spending some of your precious time...

    Possible Scoop...Tiefling Page

I can't read a word. Either my eyes aren't up to it, or there's something about the Flickr interface I'm not getting. Either way, I think it indicates I'm getting old. ;)

    Magical elves

I would instead go with some kind of innate spell-like abilities. There are several feats that give you minor magic abilities several times a day. Maybe give elves one of these feats (player's/GM's choice which one for any given character). A single bonus feat shouldn't be hard to balance...

Beasts & Beings - new fantasy mag & mini

So of course you clicked immediately! ;) That looks pretty cool, but I shudder to think what the shipping costs to the US are (plus the whole weak dollar thing...)

    Weapons from D&D Experience

I'm starting to suspect range increments are gone. Looks like there's just "normal" and "max" ranges. Probably a single flat penalty (-4?) for anything between normal and max.

    Diagonals revisited

I hesitate to enter this discussion, but I think he means that 1,2,1,2 isn't exactly correct either. By counting the diagonals as 1.5 x 5 feet when they are really 1.41 x 5 feet, you are slightly penalizing diagonal movement when compared with orthogonal movement. So if you move 4 square...

    Deep Horizon

Deep Horizon is an adventure for 13th-level characters from Wizards of the Coast. The Bottom Line Deep Horizon is a perfectly OK set of encounters for a 13th-level group, with the potential to be much more if the GM is willing to put in the work. I acquired my copy second hand at a discount...

    An option for combat?

I think it sounds exactly like what we've heard so far about 4th edition. :) It's certainly viable, but means that warrior-types who don't invest in the new feats will be putting out significantly less damage on their full attacks. Do you want to throw them a bone, or just make them take the...

    lingering high jump

And if the enemy is determined, it won't even help. Instead of readying an action, they'll just delay their initiative until after you come down. :)

    OotS #532 is up

But it also affects everybody who was in the original casting individually. So if a new person walked into the city, Xykon could scry them, but since Haley and company were in the city at the time of casting, they're covered. Unless Xykon wants to research an epic scry that can pierce the...

    Tracking Time in Your World

Worked for Tolkien. The appendices make it clear that he had "real" names for all the months/days/etc. in various languages, but used the names readers would be familiar with so they would know what he was talking about.

    Spiderwick Chronicles.... (Possible Spoilers)

I took my 10-year-old daughter and two of her friends to see it at the local IMAX. This was an experience in terror, but that had nothing to do with the movie. :) We haven't read the books (but will now) and we both really liked it. "Visually stunning" is the phrase the critics always use and...

Help me flesh out ship's crew

I don't know, looks like fun to me. Nobody above 10th level means that a big chest of buried treasure with some good magic items is still enticing. And knocking over a wealthy convoy becomes practical with those spell casters. I'll have a go this week-end.

    Amethyst is not Shadowrun

One similarity between Cynosure and Amethyst is that the rules of physics actually change depending on where you are. In Cynosure, you can cross a street and suddenly your guns stop working but a certain chord played on a guitar can destroy a tank. I don't know if the lines are that sharp in...
