D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

I don't understand why the setting should be concerned at all. Evil faithless and good faithless share the same fate which seems balanced to me. After all, why shouldn't the good also be punished? If you really want to be honest about the FR, then you need to accept the fact that the good...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

Some assume that those in hell have chosen to be there or rather that they haven't prepared themselves to live in heaven... and then we get into concepts like purgatory or a transitional state. Of course, existing outside of time, which is God's / Heaven's apparent location, is rather...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

I think that if you are going to make a character with such a goal, most FR DMs will fully support you. The other characters in the party won't likely share the same goals anyway so the campaign will still maintain its flavor. Still, I really don't think it's fair to over react to the...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

wow, for once I totally agree with you. One option is to keep the lore in the game and have the character search for an Amulet of Afterlife Protection.

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

Actually, in the 3e realms there is a chance you can't even be raised if you don't have a patron. IMO, this is a good thing because it keeps players focused on role playing a bit more. In my last FR campaign I had a player who wanted to create a godless "I don't role play" Paladin. When I...

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make a Good D&D Videogame

I couldn't agree more. It just takes one developer who has the desire to create an authentic D&D game for it to happen. You need someone with a passion for D&D who is willing sacrifice market share and profit for a game that's true to the rules. Sadly, I think most developers underestimate...

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make a Good D&D Videogame

IMO... Dragon Age 3 is a very dull game. I found myself mashing my controller to get to the next linear story element. In fact, I was so unimpressed with that game I stopped playing it. That made me realize that D&D video game experience is not a story book. NWN - The first version of...

WotC's Chris Perkins Talks About... Everything! Upcoming Storylines, Products, Staffing, Other World

Not at all. The worlds that fans love have already been created and they are a huge part of D&D. All I'm asking is for them to convert/update them to 5e. The problem is that they are just assuming that we want them to create a story in a particular campaign setting without first giving us to...

WotC's Chris Perkins Talks About... Everything! Upcoming Storylines, Products, Staffing, Other World

Is anyone here honestly getting much out of the Adventure Modules WotC is has published for 5e? Do you actually care about this grand story that Chirs is talking about? Do you not think you'd get more out of an actual campaign setting? At the moment, my 5e core books are collecting dust...

WotC's Chris Perkins Talks About... Everything! Upcoming Storylines, Products, Staffing, Other World

They dumped the WoW model for the core books and that made them successful. People are not upset with that part, they are disappointed with the content direction which IS the WoW model. It has yet to be seen if that model will work for D&D over the next few years. My bet is they'll just...

WotC's Chris Perkins Talks About... Everything! Upcoming Storylines, Products, Staffing, Other World

I really have to disagree with Chris that all the products should be focused around a story. What about releasing a large campaign setting that is full to the brim with a large percentage of content for players and DMs? You don't need "a story to tell" to create a D&D product that stands out...

WotC's Chris Perkins Talks About... Everything! Upcoming Storylines, Products, Staffing, Other World

It's worse than that. They didn't learn their lesson. It's rather sad because the things that I dislike most about 5e are all related that way of thinking. Hey Chris, how did using WoW as a model for D&D work out for you the last time?

D&D 5E (2014) The Official Poll! What THREE things do you like most about D&D 5th Edition?

There are some really great things about 5e, but sadly there are a few stinkers from 3e and 4e that are just keeping me away. I think I'd rather just play old school over having an old school "feel". In fact, I think I'd rather just add advantage to my 2e game and not even associate it with...

AD&D 1E Ye Olde Ranger of Editions Past (1E-4E)

Great post Zard, It think it might be important to note that 2e had the Beast-Rider kit from the fighters handbook that was a rather popular choice for rangers. There was also the Rangers handbook which had the Beastmaster and several other great kits. I think it's hard to compare a 5e...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Another New Ranger Variant

I'm still waiting for an option to remove the HD mechanic completely from 5e. It's too bad this version of the ranger has it listed as a key mechanic.

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Mearls' Comments on Fighter Subclasses Lacking Identity

I totally agree with you. That's basically the warrior class group from 2e. In 5e, they isolated the fighter and then artificially separated it based on mechanical styles. It's clear to me that the the battle-master was an attempt to appease those who liked 4e martial types.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is "Mystic" a bad class name?

Yes that makes perfect sense. Much like any word, after a while the term becomes part of the D&D dictionary. A wizard WAS a wizard in 2e. Just as a thief is a rogue in 2e and a mage is a wizard in 2e. If you're that confused with 2e class names and group names, I can't imagine why you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is "Mystic" a bad class name?

Thief is still a rogue and the wizard is still a wizard. I don't understand why you would expect me to criticize those two class names when they haven't changed since 2e.
