D&D 5E (2014) What is the point of material components when Wish exists?

. For the same reason, don't expect to see a hospital or church healing the sick in any 5e campaign world. "There is no need of your magic here priest, the god of long rests laughs at your healing spells. "

    D&D 5E (2014) Will 5e D&D re-claim its campaign settings.

That would be amazing, but it won't happen. :(

    D&D 5E (2014) Will 5e D&D re-claim its campaign settings.

Well, moon magic is a mechanic specific to the campaign setting, it's not fluff. It's not like any of it can be found in the Tyranny of Dragons books as you suggested. Obviously, some campaign settings require more rules updates than others. That doesn't mean we are asking for 96 double...

    D&D 5E (2014) Will 5e D&D re-claim its campaign settings.

That would be ideal. All of us relics sticking with 2e for the campaign world material might give 5e another try.

New Maps, Ansalon and Taladas Races, Sub classes (Wizards of HS, Solamnic Knights, Dragon Knights), Moon Magic, Spells, Krynn Monsters, Unique equipment, History/Timeline updates, etc

    D&D 5E (2014) Will 5e D&D re-claim its campaign settings.

I do recall reading that WotC's licensing approach was one of the primary reasons Monte Cook quit the 5e development team. I just hope all the sales of 5e prompts them to change their business model a bit. I'm not interested in these huge epic story based modules at all.

I'm also not a fan of pre-made modules. I do like dungeon magazine size adventures, but for the most part I run my own story lines within official campaign settings. I think WoTC needs to take a more balanced approach.

I'm in the exact same situation, but I guess we are part of such a small minority that our money doesn't count.

    D&D 5E (2014) Will 5e D&D re-claim its campaign settings.

Updating the various settings of old would be positive thing for the game, Sure, some people might not value certain campaign settings, but they all have their fan base. I really don't see why a particular setting has to be justified by popularity or potential dollar value before it can be...

    D&D 5E (2014) Will 5e D&D re-claim its campaign settings.

I think the DMs guild will suffer from inconsistent fan created content. Imagine buying a few Ravenloft modules that contain different rules for powers checks. I think they need to give us the platform before telling us to create fan created content for it. Without official conversions the...

That's interesting. Not a fan of Eberron, but I'll have to check out the Mystara guide. I still have my 2e Mystara monster manual.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition driving people back to 1st/2nd edition.

At this point, I've picked up the core 5e books and put them on my book shelf. The expected advantage for switching over to 5e was new content and yet I'm still using 2e campaign settings, modules, monsters, etc.

    D&D 5E (2014) Will 5e D&D re-claim its campaign settings.

Be it a short conversion document or single book filled with rules for all the campaign settings of old, do you think 5e will at some point attempt to re-claim them all? As someone who runs home-brew games using official campaign settings, I can't say that I've been interested in buying any of...

    Dragonlance Dragonlance 5E

I totally agree. I don't ever run published modules, but I do use official campaign settings. I honestly feel completely left out.

    Dragonlance Dragonlance 5E

There are two reasons why such a book would be invaluable. 1. Many of us want to use our old campaign setting boxed sets again for 5e, but we just don't have the time to convert all the rules, create new sub classes, spells, monsters, etc.. 2. We want consistent fan created content to...

D&D 5E (2014) what is it about 2nd ed that we miss?

Some campaign settings had what could be the first iteration of the PrC. The DL Knight of the Rose and Wizard of High Sorcery are two examples that come to mind. In addition, 2e also had also introduced the concept of Sub Classes. For example, the 2e Viking Berserker is a Sub Class...

But isn't that a sign that something is wrong? Many gamers I know don't run or purchase modules. I guess there must be enough bleeding hearts who will buy modules out of loyalty alone.

I think a lot of groups gave 4e more than a fair try.

    Dragonlance Dragonlance 5E

Yeah, that's a good point, but if we are still in this situation a year from now something is seriously wrong. I realize it costs money and time, but can't they at least put something on hold to get a few rules packages out the door?
