Rules interaction with possible house rule

I come seeking input about a possible house rule I'm going to try and to see if anyone here can think of some downside that hasn't already occurred to me. Proposal: Give the PC's a flat Level +3 attack bonus to be used with any attack the PC might have. Proficiency bonuses and class features...

    New Errata/Updates at Wotc

I have an Avenger in my monthly game (this Sat) and I can hardly wait to tell the player who whines the most at my table that his 20 INT/18 WIS Deva and an AC that's 3 points higher than either of the defenders in my group that he's getting the nerf bat . On a plus note I am happy that his AC...

The REAL Race Elimination ROUND 3!!!

I'm with whoever said up thread that Changelings have to go as the most likely to break your campaign with at-will shape change.

    Non-AC Defenses

Quick math review: Level 1-30 monsters gain +29 to everything. PCs: +15 from 1/2 Level +6 from magic (weapon, armor, neck) +4/+1 from stat bumps Assuming that you used the 16/16 starting array and had a 12 in your off FRW defense you'd look something like this at level 1: Fort: 10 base +3...

Best Cleric race? (sorry if this is in the wrong forum)

They are as a group called "Melee Training" and they only apply to "Basic Melee Attacks" so no you cannot use WIS for your STR based Cleric powers...if only!!!!! On another note I found the STR/WIS Cleric build to be very effective by about level 8. Built with a Shifter and starting stats of...

    reach weapon and CA

QFT. This is the exact issue at hand. I don't think there is any way to get threatening reach for PC's, but I could be wrong. Some larger monsters get it as part of their write up which falls under specific beats general, but by and large this is not even common among monsters.

    Probability Math for Resistance (help!)

Maybe you'd like to do lookup tables in Excel for each combo. Then you could do what you want by just plugging in the raw numbers from that site using the p(roll=x) column keeping in mind you'd have to round to the nearest whole number. For example: @lookup 2d6 2d8 1 0 0 2...

    Probability Math for Resistance (help!)

I took exactly 1 semester in College as a required class for my major. I think that's been 10 years ago now? I'm sure there is a formula that does what you need, but I'm almost positive you'd have to evaluate the formula for each result (looping) because with statistics formulas you're allowed...

    Probability Math for Resistance (help!)

    I can do that one manually, but I'm not sure how to convert it to a formula: 2d6 (6*6 = 36 outcomes) Roll - resistance = damage / # of outcomes 2 - 7 = 0 / 1 -- (1/1) 3 - 7 = 0 / 2 -- (1/2, 2/1) 4 - 7 = 0 / 3 -- (1/3, 3/1, 2/2) 5 - 7 = 0 / 4 -- (1/4, 4/1, 2/3, 3/2) 6 - 7 = 0 / 5 -- (1/5, 5/1...

    Can you "crit" a miss?

I think the best answer you're going to get is to actually try reading the rules. See p276 where it defines Hit and Miss. Note that as part of Hit there is a sub-entry for Critical Hit. Also note the lack of said entry under Miss. Beyond that it depends on how you believe any other specific...

Do Characters Need Magic Items to Keep Up?

To further nitpick you did not account for stat bumps in your +10 Fort/Ref/Will. Assuming that the 2 stats you bump are in 2 different pairs (STR/CON, INT/DEX, WIS/CHA) then by level 30 you will have a 3 point gap between 2 of your defenses and the 3rd (which will lag behind due to the stat...

    Adent Champion. Rules lawyers required

I was only trying to point out that statistically Holy Ardor is not a full +5% (4.5% if you use a base 11 die roll needed to hit) critical enhancing ability. This is offset (if you give it the liberal reading) by increased damage of turning what would have been total misses into a hit/critical.

    Adent Champion. Rules lawyers required

Ignoring 1 and 20, doubles will come up 18/400 or 4.5%. I'd have to argue that even given an 11 needed to hit this is more effective than a flat 5% increase in critical (19-20) because of the average damage increase. All other critical improving abilities take what would already have been a...

    Adent Champion. Rules lawyers required

Yeah...forgot to add that both sides seemed to agree that they INTENDED for double 2's to hit and crit. The debate was about RAW.

    Adent Champion. Rules lawyers required

Quick summary is that one side claims either reading is valid by RAW. The other side says only one is valid. No matter which side you choose to believe you'll just have to make your own decision. I recall two responses from CS somewhere in the thread...one for each side. All that you really...

    Magic Items

It should be pointed out that there is enough gold awarded each level for the party to "buy" 1 or 2 items of level n for whoever didn't get something. I don't recall the exact amount.

    Magic Items

I use a house rule. At each level up each PC may pick one item of n+2 or less. Just so I'm clear what the n is I'll give an example: A PC is going from level 4 to level 5. n = 4 This keeps everyone on an even keel and if someone got a lower level item it's because they picked it. I don't...

    D&D 4E Two Camps of 4e Players (a rant)

The difference I think is that in 3e if you had a weapon that did extra damage per swing you would apply it to every swing. Double weapons have their own rules in 4e and they diverge from how they worked in 3e in this regard IIRC. Saying that someone is a 3e veteren and therefore would not...
