I'm looking for a 4th edition DnD "choose your own adventure" style module.

To clarify... The Red Box has two books, and a redemption code for an online bonus. It also has a double-sided poster map and some tokens to represent the monsters. The 1st book is sort of a player's guide. It is basically a single "solo adventure" written in the classic solo-play mode (if you...

    Campaign Settings you like

I like a lot of settings, but rather than a big list of random names, I'll go with a Top 3. Also note that I'm excluding my personal homebrew because, really, who other than myself and my players would care? And for variety, I'll choose a D&D setting, a non-D&D setting, and a non-tabletop...

    Essentials Assassin

I like it, and one of my players loves it. He has just spent the afternoon frantically rejigging his "traditional" Assassin to a new Essentials Assassin for the game tonight. ...so the Damage-Per-Round isn't as munchy as a ranger. A 3rd-level Assassin is still doing 1d8 (longsword) + 1d8...

Best "Known World" Gazetteers: Fluff, Not Crunch?

You don't have a few of my personal favorites up there (Shadow Elves - for a take on "dark elves" that is completely different to the typical D&D drow... and Glantri - for Scottish liches and other madness). However, from the list given, I'd have to go with (in order)... Northern Reaches -...

    D&D 4E 4e limit of beatability

Similar to renau1g above, I TPK'ed a 5-man party this week (40 sessions into the campaign, at 19th level) with a level+3 encounter, with some terrain advantage. I used the new "essentials" Red Dragon, as shown on the WotC site. I found dragons, in general, are pretty nasty opponents. You don't...

DMs: Do you use the Inherent bonuses option?

Haven't yet, but will in my next campaign. I was never a 2e Dark Sun fan. Planescape? Bought and played everything. Ravenloft? Bought and played most things. But Dark Sun always looked a bit too wacky for me. Bug-men and chitin armor and half-dwarves. Never bought any of it; never played any of...

Do you or have you ever penalized characters in terms of XP?

I've penalized XP in the distant past (15+ years ago), but have long since moved to "consequences". PCs not acting their alignment? Not a problem. Alignment doesn't really matter any more except as a guide to the DM on how NPCs and monsters should be played. Players should have freedom to...

    Ravenloft Board Game Delayed Again?

I received an email yesterday saying that Miniature Market had just shipped my copy, so perhaps this is an Amazon-specific problem?

    Miniatures or Counters?

I'd recommend cherry-picking from the DDM line at a singles-retailer like Miniature Market or Troll-and-Toad. The minis you're looking for are generally commons or uncommons, which means you can get pre-painted plastic for a relatively low price. Certainly cheaper than buying metal (or even...

Why is the original red box so special

My experience is much the same as Korgoth's. The original magenta box simply blew me away. The Magenta box cover was amazing. A dungeon, a dragon, a buff fighter, a "hot" sorceress... my 10-year-old mind was blown. It had a play example which I really enjoyed reading. I wept for the thief, and...

    Curley Greenleaf Question.

Gord is the main character. Curley makes a couple of extended "cameo" appearances (i.e. he's present for a few chapters). As far as I know, he has not appeared in any books other than the Gord saga.

Essentials: Magic Item Rarity Explained, it's actually good!

I like it. And I also like the note at the bottom which confirms that "Daily Item Uses" are a thing of the past. You can now use as many Daily Item powers as you desire. Simplicity is good; the DM can always control access to things like elixirs (count as daily items), if required.

    Fiendish Lords?

My personal campaign world is rife with demonic and diabolic machinations, but the party almost always deals with minions and "sub-bosses". The Big Bads never materialize on the material plane itself, but occasionally make an appearance when the heroes get powerful enough to take the fight to...

    D&D outside the U.S.

Another Kiwi (New Zealander) posting in the thread. I'm based in our largest city, Auckland - which has about 30% of the country's population living in it. Having said that, even in Auckland (our "New York"), there are only four "gaming shops" that stock RPG supplies... and only one of them...

    Drizzt Movie?

The challenge here is that Driz'zt is an elf. With pure black skin, and long white hair. Wesley Snipes is way too buff to play an elf. We should be thinking more like Orlando Bloom, with digitally altered skin color (e.g. Avatar). ...although, for my money, if I was looking at a serious...

    Drizzt Movie?

And... just kidding. I've heard nothing, sorry. I'm not sure I'd want to see a Driz'zt movie, given how the official D&D movies and the animated Dragonlance movie turned out. Although Lady Gaga might make an awesome Matron Malice...

    Drizzt Movie?

I heard a rumor that it might be based on the Homeland trilogy of books, starting with his birth. Backstabbing and skullduggery in the drow city of Menzoberranzan. They're looking for young stars with X-appeal to play Driz'zt as he's growing up... possibly Justin Bieber, who has the kind of...

New Neverwinter Nights Game Probably On Its Way

I'd be thrilled to see a good 4e solo-play D&D CRPG. I'd be even more thrilled if it came wtih DM tools as well (e.g. Neverwinter Nights). I'd be heartbroken if it's just another MMO. With regards to the Bioware vs Obsidian vs Troika discussion, here's my two cents... I agree with the earlier...

Skill Challenge Design Feedback Wanted - Sea Battle

Very nice... lot of effort into that. Some general thoughts: 15 crew seems a little light for the sort of vessel you're talking about (700-ish hp, cannons, rams, ocean-going, etc). Perhaps you mean 15 marines, while there are additional sailors (etc) manning other stations? A typical...
