    Why Not Share Spellbooks?

Cabals certainly would, to an extent. As would master/apprentice relationships. But that's not the question GX.Sigma asked. He asked "is there any reason why two wizard characters wouldn't share spellbooks?" He has been given countless reasons why wizard A would not share spells with wizard B...

    Why Not Share Spellbooks?

Maybe they heard stories from the wizard Spugnoir; whose spellbook was stolen? Maybe they were recently accosted by bandits on the road to Nulb? Maybe they suspect that the wizard Burne is secretly an agent of the Temple of Elemental Evil? Maybe they just got a funny feeling in the pit of their...

    Why Not Share Spellbooks?

Risk doesn't disappear because your a low-level character. As in real life, there is a risk/reward tradeoff. Sometimes characters, wizards included, will simply be risk averse.

    Why Not Share Spellbooks?

Two wizards get together. They each hand the other their spellbook. Wizard A opens the spellbook and reads "I prepared explosive ruins today." Wizard B casts teleport and hightails it into a magnificent mansion. Or, to put it more succinctly: it's often too risky.

    D&D 5E (2014) Wandering Monsters: Big Beasts

This. My primary concern with the name of monsters is the ease in which it conveys information to my players. Nearly every player I know of knows the basic dinosaurs: Ankylosaurus, Pterodactyl, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus. Using these names quickly, and accurately, informs my players...

    Free Will and Story

Have you considered taking the DM aside and saying "Hey, I enjoyed your campaign, but the rules and rulings seem a bit much for you. Since we all have X years of experience with these rules, would you mind if in the next campaign you focus on the plot and we (as a table) will worry about making...

How medieval are your medieval(-ish) fantasy games?

I few years back I began converting my Greyhawk campaign using A Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe. So, to answer your question... very! I didn't enter this hobby from a traditional fantasy background - far from it! The extent of my fantasy knowledge growing up was limited to Disney...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the next edition of D&D promote more equality?

Haven't you heard? All knights wear make-up while traveling. They also wear highly polish armor accented with pearly white banners! Not a hint of dirt or grime. :p

D&D 5E (2014) Should the next edition of D&D promote more equality?

Whereas to me, I don't want the "Cantina Scene." I'd much rather they show diversity like this: Or this: Or even this:

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: Monster Entries, Class Focus & Random Tables

Looks positive. I'd like to see organization be written using dice in addition to a range (i.e. 3.x). So a manticore entry would look something like this:Manticore Organization: Solitary, Pair, or Pride (3-6 [1d4+2]) Instead of this: Manticore Organization: Solitary, Pair, or Pride (3-6)

D&D 5E (2014) Should the next edition of D&D promote more equality?

This depends on your investing philosophy. My financial education began in the 90s with professors who were strong adherents to the Peter Lynch school of investing: invest in what you know/understand the company's "story" and focus on fundamentals. I have worked in this industry since 1997. I...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the next edition of D&D promote more equality?

Over what term? I'm a value investor with a fairly long-term investment horizon. I own Habro stock. What I want from WotC is to maximize the ROI over the life of the product (say 5-7 years), and lay the groundwork to maximize the ROI in D&D 2020, 2030, etc. I know that white heterosexual males...

    Determining abilities for cohorts?

I wanted a little higher power game for my current campaign so: PCs: 32-point buy NPCs with PC classes (including cohorts): 28-point buy NPCs with NPC classes (including followers): 25-point buy So Cohorts would be built using the 28-point buy. As far as wealth, I use the recommended NPC...
