[LotR] The Two Towers (WARNING: possible spoiler)

2 days to go.:D I heard today that the movie begins with Gandalf fighting the Balrog!!! Maybe that's old news, I don't know. But it's got me even more stoked. What an opening scene.

    Ranger assistance

Discourage powergaming? You mean, like not taking a PrC that fits your concept because it's not as efficient/powerful as taking a feat 10 levels later? Sorry, that just seems a bit contradictory. And what's wrong with powergaming anyway? This is a game, and as long as everyone's having fun...

    Ranger assistance

Marius, if one is playing in a campaign where roleplaying isn't a huge factor in the requirement for multiclassing, taking a level of ANY class isn't a problem (except pal/monk of course...unless in FRCS). It's also not a problem in any other campaign unless the DM wants to be constrictive and...

Q: magic immunity and indirect effects

Does the spell/psion make your claws +3? If not, you'll have a hard time doing 20+ points of damage. In combination with Greater Magic Fang it should work though. However, I'm not certain GMF would enhance magically created claws. Hmmm...

Q: magic immunity and indirect effects

Yes, but it has to do damage to kill it, meaning GMW, not MW. So, basically you practically HAVE to have this spell to defeat it unless one or more party members has a +3 weapon. So yeah, unless you commune, metagame, or are lucky enough to have an extra GMW spell left (or have one going when...

Q: magic immunity and indirect effects

Oh, I see where I screwed up before. Sorry Hong.:D To backtrack, IF your magical claws could penetrate the DR, then YES it would work. Also, not sure about the golem issue. Spell Immunity works against any spell that can thwarted by SR right? Since you can't cast GMW on a golem, it follows...

Q: magic immunity and indirect effects

Supernatural abilities go bye bye inside of an AM field, but he could just move outside of the range and pop you with a fireball just fine. Or go invisible first, THEN pop you. Yes, the melee attacks aren't bad at all, but given time, he could possibly take out an entire party with his claws...

Q: magic immunity and indirect effects

Yeah, that helps IF you have it memorized. I thought about that before I posted, but it doesn't seem helpful enough to make a CR 9 a fair rating imo. It's certainly more dangerous than the CR 10 Roper.

    Which word confused you?:D

Q: magic immunity and indirect effects

My goodness! I just noticed they had a DR 20/+3 to go along with that near spell immunity. There's no way they are a simple CR 9. At that level, it's quite possible that no one in the party has a +3 weapon. Anyone else think that's a wee bit low?

Q: magic immunity and indirect effects

SRD:"Rakshasas ignore the effects of spells and spell-like abilities of 8th level or less, just as if the spellcaster had failed to overcome spell resistance." Notice the word 'effects'. Magical claws of less than 9th level won't effect them.

    Does SR stack?

I didn't see it in my FAQ. Care to provide a page number or quote?

    Please rate Zen Archery

It seems to be created with the PrC OotBI in mind. That's the only time I'd take it, except maybe a clerical archer.

    Invisibility and Etherealness?

You're right, it doesn't work on the ethereal plane. However, it doesn't HAVE to. The ethereal creature is looking onto the material plane, and that is where the invisible foe is. The ethereal being is the one who is "crossing over" to view things on the material plane I think. Besides...

    Invisibility and Etherealness?

I'm not trying to throw flames here, but I haven't really seen an argument yet using any rules to allow ethereal creatures to see invis. There's no rule that says wizards must wear red cloaks either. There's no rule that says bards must tip their hat at the end of a song. There's no rule that...

    how would you resolve this?

Did you teach your bear to jump over pits? This might be something he wouldn't do unless you trained him. Bears aren't exactly known for jumping. I assume you are a druid?

    Invisibility and Etherealness?

"An ethereal creature can see and hear into the Material Plane in a 60-foot radius, though material objects still block sight and sound. (An ethereal creature can’t see through a material wall, for instance.) Things on the Material Plane, however, look gray, indistinct, and ghostly." According...

    Invisibility and Etherealness?

The Etherealness description does not say anything (from my 'once-over' reading) about them being able to sense invisible creatures. They see and hear in a 60' radius and material things block their view just as it would anyone else. They don't sense like Blindsight afaik. Did I miss...

Help Me Convice Someone D&D Isn't Evil

How silly. One of my best friends is a Catholic Priest (I'm definitely not Catholic, fwiw). His favorite movie is Fellowship of the Ring. He's played the LotR card game before, though never actually D&D or any other RPG. He also played Diablo and other CRPGs. You see, he actually has a...

    reading attack vs invisible caster

Re: Re: Ah! Here it is... Ok,no sweat. I apologize for having the audacity to post a Sage reply. Where was this 100 opinion consensus again? I missed it.
