Are zombies "smart" enough to take AoO's?

I would add "...that conforms to its instructions" to that. A golem ordered to attack only the spellcaster would take AoOs against only the spellcaster. -- gnfnrf

    Hide in Plain Sight

I disagree. Supernatural abilities are standard actions unless otherwise noted. The wording "can use the Hide skill" notes that the ability works as Hide, including the action required. If you insist, then how does Ranger HiPS work? -- gnfnrf

    Hide in Plain Sight

And yet, other than this dire proclimation, there is no actual deluge. Only been half a day or so, I suppose. So, I'll post my take, having run a game with a 3.0 Shadowdancer and since looked at the rules since, but not debated them to death. Hiding is not a free action. It is a consequence...

A Dozen Crossbows Aimed at You ..

I will second the opinion that there is no 50% rule. There is a house rule about being staggered if you lose a percentage of your CURRENT HP, but nothing about dying. Death from massive damage triggers at 50 hp, not 50%, and calls for a Fort save. As for the other, giving low level soldiers...

Looking for a twisted BBGG CR 10

I like that, but I'd make the VoP monk a svirfneblin, and work in a treant druid if at all possible. At least, that's essentially what I did in a game I wrote. -- gnfnrf

    Speed Modifier Bonanza

There isn't. There is a description of load penalties... and looking at it, it's actually 2/3 rounded up, not 3/4 rounded down. That's odd. Anyway, using that, I should actually be at 40', not 45', from tortoise shell. Otherwise, I don't know where the rules would be. -- gnfnrf

    Speed Modifier Bonanza

Would it? I take that as meaning "you move at 3/4 speed rounded down, and run at x3", not "movement effects that don't work in heavy armor don't work here" but I can see it being read either way. -- gnfnrf

    Speed Modifier Bonanza

Some specific rules text, for clarification. Tortoise shell: "Tortoise shell slows a creature's movement as if it were wearing heavy armor... The spell affects only a creature's speed; tortoise shell doesn't have an armor check penalty or arcane spell failure chance." Essence of the Raptor...

    Speed Modifier Bonanza

I am making a high level character who will likely find himself in the following situtation regularly. He is a gnome (base speed 20') He is wildshaped (new base speed 40') He is a barbarian (+10' speed) He is under the effects of the following spells Longstrider (+10' speed) Tortoise Shell...

Encumbrance - how strict are you?

I myself and many of the people I game with use a spreadsheet that automatically tracks weight and encumbrance, so I play pretty strictly. Before, we paid occasional attention, but didn't agonize over it. -- gnfnrf

At what distance do you start making Listen checks?

Make a single listen check, and a single move silently check, BEFORE the subject is in range. Apply the appropriate modifiers for distance and such to the fixed die results as the person advances, until the listen check exceeds the move silently. This isn't quite how it's written, but prevents...

    Psions vs Wizards : DCs

The flipflipside is that for damaging augmentable powers, Empower Power and Maximize Power don't typically actually produce more average damage than just spending the PP to augment the power. -- gnfnrf

    Bestow Curse

I would say that going to: You cannot be affected by Conjuration (Healing) spells for Bestow Curse and Conjuration (Healing) spells affect you as if you were undead, if they harm undead, or not at all, if they do not for greater bestow curse would be better balanced. But, I'm curious what...

    Magic Missiles vs Mirror Image

Why must it be referring to you? Why can't it be saying that the ATTACK cannot distinguish between a creature and a figment? Fizzling due to invalid targeting certainly seems to be a distinguishing feature, but they are indistinguishable. It seems just as valid to me to say that they are...

    "Wild" armor ability

Does wild armor apply a check penalty, arcane spell failure, or count as armor for movement purposes while the wearer is wild shaped? It appears that the armor and armor enhancement bonus remain, and all other effects of the armor go away. Is this correct? For reference, the text of wild...

    True20 racial ability modifiers

It IS unclear how I feel about it ... to me. At first, it jumped out at me as "wrong". There are a few reasons for that, I think. First, it is Different From What I Know. Of course, if I didn't want different, I shouldn't have bought True20. Second, it states the restrictions in a way...

    True20 racial ability modifiers

I agree, and in my normal d20 games, we always play point buy. But using the dnd point buy tables, racial ability scores DO matter, because the tables are non-linear. The +2 dex (from a 16 to an 18) is worth a lot more in final apparent points than the -2 con (from a 12 to a 10) removes. So...

    True20 racial ability modifiers

So, I just picked up True20 in my quest to find a quick, broad system to run modern and scifi material in. And I like what I've read so far. However, there seems to be a major flaw in the racial ability modifiers as written. As far as I can tell, unless you want a +6 (or a -5), an individual...

how do "miss chance" abilities stack/overlap?

Miss chances never stack (that is, accumulate). They either overlap or act independently. So for a melee attack, there are two 20% miss chances. One that the aura of unluck causes misfortune, and one that the blurriness causes the attacker to miss. Roll both of these separately. Against a...

    Non-Buff Spells For Melee Clerics

You have some options, depending on your level (I assume you must be pretty high level, if you have encounters where you are subject to 6-10 dispel magics) Use the mass version of the ability buffing spells. That way, they can either target you and you've helped your friends, or area dispel...
