    Whiney players....

Sounds like roleplaying to me. For one thing, the character would have had no way to know ICly that that 19th-level wizard was drained by the ritual (instead of just distracted), or that he had burned any high-level (eg. instant-kill) spells in the dungeon instead of just using standbys like...

    Initiative order & multiple attacks.

Seconded. Trying to "fix" a system as relatively complex as D&D without intricately knowing the math first is just going to result in something even more "broken".

    New skills system

Have you seen the skill system in Star Wars Saga Edition (and the same one that'll presumably be in 4e)? It's sort of the same kind of idea - instead of using skill points, you pick a few skills as trained depending on your class. You can get another trained skill with a feat, or take Skill...

    Whiney players....

I'd agree with the "whiny" player here, at the very least on the first battle mentioned. Quite simply, the 19th-level wizard and 16th-level sorcerer should have been able to decimate the party all at once - even if just because of the wizard having 9th-level spells - and that's not even counting...

Removing the "Revolving Door of Death"

This isn't something I've (forcibly) applied to PCs, but the simple fact that the afterlife for most Good or even Neutral people is much better than the living world is a good in-setting way to say "no, you can't Ressurect (NPC ___), because he doesn't want to come back". Generally, only PCs and...

    Wild Shape and Weight

I'd rule, personally, that he has the weight of an average member of the species he's turned into (just like other stats). Ruling that he somehow keeps the weight of all his equipment has some pretty nasty effects on turning into a flying creature, or anything at all particularly small or with...

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

These both sound to me more like cruel (and/or, in the second case, rule-breaking) DMs than stupid players.

    WotC_Bruce serves the dragon

Probably something like Star Wars Saga Edition, where after running long enough you have to start rolling the Endurance skill or suffer performance penalties (IIRC).

    How many ranks?

Anything including a natural 1, you mean, because skill checks never auto-fail.

So I've hit the damage roadblock on an Archer

You make good points, though I'd be wary, given that it would basically become the default choice of any bowman not mounted (that is, most or many PCs who take that style of combat). Also (though this is less important in most campaigns), Large or effectively Large characters (like goliaths)...

Best Character For A New Player?

My personal solution for the attack bonus problem was to precalculate attack lines (in the vein of the new-style stat blocks) with each degree of bonus in a little sidebar. I can't remember how I handled the delayed damage, though I think it was a little easier because I tend to keep track of...

Best Character For A New Player?

The randomness has the advantage of only having to focus on a few powers at a time and still be at more-or-less optimal combat performance... which, for a player who's still working to grasp some of the rules, can be a life-, or at least time-saver.

    RE: Warlock's Eld. Blast question

Not by the RAW, though! See why people have problems with the orb spells - or, at the very least, the orb of force spell?

    RE: Warlock's Eld. Blast question

Yep. Think of it this way: conjuration attack spells work by creating something nonmagical that, by itself, damages an enemy. ...so does this mean that anybody casting orb of force at enemies is leaving a bunch of little non-magical orbs of invisible force laying around?

Best Character For A New Player?

If he likes Cleric, maybe you could suggest Crusader from Tome of Battle? It's got the same kind of flavor, but being able to heal as part of combat actions means he won't have to worry about the "healbot", and the randomized way one gets maneuvers in combat (use maneuver cards!) means not...

Is this a fair _flavourful_ 0LA Satyr?

Flavorful, yes; balanced, no. This deserves at least LA +1 as-is, and probably more.

    Factotum skill question

I'd personally say that Factotum has, as its entry says, every skill as a class skill - including weird ones like Truespeak.
