What should you be doing between turns?

Two things: 1. Pay attention. Watch what the other players are doing and start deciding what you're power/move/focus will be. There are five players and 20 monsters on the map, lets try to keep it going quickly. Yes, plans will change when Leeeeroy charges the dragon, but most of the time...

    Showing love to our enablers

Gotta give props to my wife, as well. With no interest in the hobby she would often paint miniatures for me, help organize the shelves, and always makes snacks for our games. I wouldn't be happy without her, and she supports all the dorky things I love.

How Do You Let The Players Be Cool?

Ideas are always given a chance of success. If it's particularly inspired, it may get an automatic success. I push players to think outside their powers, outside their optimized character sheet. A wyvern is flying out of reach? Attempt to use that smaller tree as a catapault, launching you...

    "UndD&Ding" some stuff

I'll just give examples from my campaign, as I've used them all in one form or another. Beysibians, they're a culture of snake-worshippers (Zehir being their god). Switched fire resistance to poison resist (story being they're constantly ritually-bit by snakes until they're virtually immune)...

[Any edition]Adventures or supplement that inspire "That Tingle"

The 3e module Forge of Fury. The cover was just epic, with the dragon fight over a bridge/chasm. I've thrown it into two different campaigns where it became a centerpoint of the game.

    I am filled with shame...

I, too, have become an Erfworld fan. It's just so damn weird. If it is all a dream, it's one of the best representations of that idea, ever. Alas, once it was no longer part of the OotS site, I stopped following it. :(

    4E at higher levels question?

I'm starting my second foray into paragon in 4e tonight. On Saturday I spent four hours prepping and I put together: 11 combat encounters. Some of these won't be seen for a session or so, or won't happen depending on the players motivations. 15 skill challenges. Some are complexity 1...

    Forked Thread: Dungeon Tiles DT1

I use the really large gallon ziploc bags. Each type is separated (not set, I separate by type; Dungeon, forest, desert, cave) and bagged. A smaller bag houses the 1-2 square pieces for easy access. Then they're stored in a large tub, labeled.

    DDI Group Penetration

There are six in our group, and 4 of us have active subscriptions. Two of the four are regular DM's and one is the alternate, stepping in when campaigns end. Three have never DM'd even a one-shot in 4e. Two have consistent purchasing, buying the books that interest them. (Me and the...

Players: Do you keep a character journal?

I always do, when I play. I use Epic Words - a home for your RPG - Role-playing Game Blogs and Wikis and usually post comments about the session, from an in-character perspective. The rest of the group isn't usually so... consistent. In fact, the last game we played in, only one other person...

    iPad

Cost of systems isn't our issue. Our system was designed utilizing I.e. as the outlet, and many of our features function through .Net framework. Is it possible for our system to run on a Mac? Yes, technically. However, due to limitations on our end for having developers focusing on other...

Not really so; the company I work for is based entirely around this idea already. We supply an EMR/prescribing system for clinics all over the country that are directly interfaced to lab and radiology facilities, along with direct access to hospitals. This can all be done from a wireless...

    I really want to play...

I had built a Drow Avenger while playing around with the class preview and became smitten with the idea of "Eclipse", a special operative used by the Church of Pelor as their personal assassin. As part of an pact forged from a war no one remembers, drow males the city does not want are given to...

    Do Something Cool

The best way to handle multi-roll is to say take the highest. That ensures that, outside of the pants-crappingly bad luck of two 1's, you should get a fairly decent chance of success on one of the rolls. On my part, I agree with much of the above, do something cool shouldn't have a static...

Upcoming Changes to D&D Minis Line

While I did buy most (possibly all) of the PH heroes, I did dislike most of them. Often, it was one mini out of three that got me to purchase them. My suggestion would be as above, but with some changes: Each box of "orcs, goblins, whathaveyou" should also include a map/tiles and a small...

Penny Arcade [Gabe] does the sandbox thing...

I'm already working on a map for my game. I am constantly humbled by the awesomeness that is Gabe's game.

    Help with Mythology

Another resource could be the latest Dragon Age: Origins. The Maker isn't "dead" per-se, but it's made plainly clear that the god doesn't get involved, help, or hinder anyone. The faithful still follow with devout belief, and hold strong power due to the "paladins" who govern the mages, but...

    Help with Mythology

Amazon.com: Requiem for a God (9781588461049): Monte Cook: Books Monte Cook's early 3e Malhavoc Press book, Requiem for a God should be required reading if you're interested in this sort of plot. It deals with both the event of death, and the aftermath for followers and effects on the world.
