    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 4/1/2013

Well if they stick to the stated leveling rate from the article then I tend to agree with Obryn that giving up a couple levels at the top is a poor way to solve the starting character scaling issue. Start to done in under a year of weekly sessions seems terribly fast to me. On the other hand...

    MurderHobos

Add me to the list of people who embrace the term and consider it, like all good humour, rooted in truth. If you don't play in that style anymore then it doesn't apply to you. If, like me and my sons, you still like to roll 3d6 in order then go to strange places and meet strange people and steal...

Nice interview. ACKS deserves a lot of love its a very well designed game.

Kickstarter Anyone supporting the Dwarven Forge Kickstarter

I'm supporting. I went with the Dark Grey base models. I own multiple sets of the original material products and the paint jobs are superb. I just couldn't resist spending extra support money for more sets rather than fewer, prettier sets :). I got to meet Stefan, briefly, at Gary Con V and he...

    Operation: Power Level Gary

Gary Con V is next week. Lets see if we can get Gary over the top by then. Gary Up!

    Old Fashioned Rules Question

I agree, if the rogue is going to blow a daily to get the encounter back to effectively re-roll his hit die on Nasty Backswing I don't see a balance issue. I was just pointing out that there is an official rule that covers it. TwoSix, I guess I mis-read the OP. I thought Rogue's Recovery was a...

    Old Fashioned Rules Question

If you are playing with errata then no. If Nasty Backswing was the last encounter power then the Daily will allow your player to regain Nasty Backswing but not immediately use it. By the errata document, you cannot make more than 1 free action from the same source in the same turn. So...

    Gary Con V

[OT] What does "under Jacob's condition" mean?

The Creek tribes were part of the Trail of Tears forced migration to Oklahoma.

    Hybrids and Armor

I was going to ask if the Character Builder treated the Warlord Feature the same way, but since they updated it I guess the comparison is moot. I don't think the 1 round bonuses are as strong as Healer's Lore without the armor proficiency so it may not need the errata. Probably fine to leave it...

    Hybrids and Armor

What else does the cleric get with Battle Cleric's Lore, I forget and get to the compendium from here?

    Hybrids and Armor

Actually, I think Blackbrrd is right on this. Hybrid characters only get armor that both classes are proficient in. With Ranger as a second class I believe the character would have hide as the best armor proficiency without spending an additional feat.

    D&D 5E (2014) (no more) boring shields

I can think of a couple but they are based on using some additional, likely optional, rules. If your table actually tracks weight/encumbrance then there is a reduction in weight for using the smaller shield. Small shields/bucklers should probably be treated as weapons for purposes of equipping...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls's Tweets

If your chance to hit is less than 100% than +1 damage is worth less than 1 extra damage per attack as well. Expressed as expected damage per attack, a +1 to hit always adds more than +1 damage. EDIT: After reading Delricho's response, I ran some numbers and he is right. For low average...

Gygax Magazine? [UPDATE 3 - Electric Boogaloo]

In general I agree with this sentiment. Luke and Ernie Gygax being involved makes me inclined to think otherwise in this case. I have hopes that with Tim Kask's involvement this venture will have a lot of the broad gaming market vibe that the original The Dragon had when he was the editor. I'd...

D&D 5E (2014) Happy with Play Test 2 Direction BUT..

I don't agree with this. The d20 is just not fine grain.ed enough to cover those types of situations. 5% chance to miss against a helpless opponent is simply too high. I find rolling to avoid a 1 pretty boring anyway Jester Canusk covered point 2 pretty well. I like the system where some...

Am I the only one who doesn't like the arbitrary "boss monster" tag?

If we want to shift the discussion this way then I agree with your point above. 3e and 4e (4e more than 3e) have rules for creating adventurers. They do, in fact, do a pretty poor job of creating a PC who mechanically reflects being an adventurer with great skill in some craft or profession. I...

Am I the only one who doesn't like the arbitrary "boss monster" tag?

I guess it's a style thing; but, the one player practice that irritates me to know end is trying to use knowledge of game mechanics to reverse engineer a monster or NPC. There is a wide range of stories that could generate a master blacksmith. He could be a serf, effectively chained to his...

Am I the only one who doesn't like the arbitrary "boss monster" tag?

Its 5 points of defenses as well as the +5 to hit. That's the real rub for the 5 level split party the lower level members go from a system preferred 55% chance to hit to a 30% chance to hit and they are going to be hit in return about 80% of the time. It can get pretty brutal. Three level...
