Ever see a Strengh 18/00 rolled legitimately?

Just once. A friend rolled a cavalier under the UA rules. Started with an 18/70 ish strength and raised it to 18/00 at level 5 or 6. Never saw one rolled straight. I rolled a 96 for a half-elf F/MU but had to drop it to 90 due to the racial max.

    Rules Misunderstandings Over The Years

Only where a restriction was considered class defining. Forex, a multiclass with thief had to wear no better than leather to use his thief abilities and druids are still restricted to no metal and few weapons. Largely, it was a best of both classes situation with xp split and averaged hit points.

The D&D Experience (or, All Roads lead to Rome)

I disagree, but in a very disinterested way. I agree with the designers of 4e that the health of the hobby is dependant on attracting new players (which will likely come from computer game players). We, as members of the hobby, are going to be able to better strengthen and renew the player base...

The D&D Experience (or, All Roads lead to Rome)

I have no doubt nor disagree with the idea of roleplaying having matured and expanded, just like the rulesets of rpgs have matured and expanded. On the other hand, if the "evolved" definition can no longer encompass the original definition there is something entirely too limiting about the...

The D&D Experience (or, All Roads lead to Rome)

I think your definition of roleplaying is too narrow in the context of D&D. Over the last week I took advantage of the excellent "Powerlevel Gary" thread and read through all of the Q&A threads that a kind poster linked in from the archives. Fairly regularly through threads lasting for the...

D&D 4E [4E Players, mainly] Ever thought of defecting to Pathfinder?

Well any 3.x D&D would be the last thing I would play, so Pathfinder is out for me. Still, I understand some of the disillusionment with Wizards and 4e, at the moment. It has led me to think about pulling out Fantasy Hero and role with some crunchy point buy system goodness. I'm not sure how...

    Is it time for 5E?

This seems about right. I think OP is correct, actually, that in a lot of ways Essentials feels like WoTC learning from some of the design mistakes of 4E's launch. Honestly, I hope 5e has the same sort of iterative feel from 4e that 2e had to 1e. I think 4e is pretty close to "right" and...

    WotC Angst?

I voted Woot. I really disliked the moves WoTC made when they acquired TSR. With the release of 4E I am now firmly a fan of their current iteration of the D&D brand. I would have squeed all over them if the digital offerings were better. I do find the magazines largely disappointing.

    Essentials (Comments)

Exactly this, my Taclord was an old military sergeant whose inspiring word was "Get up or you'll get my boot up your ass!". The character is retired now; but my gaming group still talks about the "Boots of Healing". Edit for the historical roots of knights drowning in full armor. At the...

5E - How would you structure it?

I honestly don't have a complete vision of how 5e should be structrued, but I do have a couple of thoughts. The subscription model needs to be blown apart. A modest base subscription for the use of software tools is a fine thing. Content should be purchased once, not constantly rented. I...

What tools do you want to see?

I would like to see a good Campaign Planner that incorporated an item builder and encounter builder as well as expanded support for house-rules in its connectivity to the character builder. The other thing I desperately want, is the ability to exclude things for a campaign set. For example, I...

Does Opportunity Action + MBA = Opportunity Attack?

He's not arguing those points. He is discussing only the specific case of an Opportunity Action granting an MBA and how that is understandably confusing when compared to an Opportunity Attack which grants an MBA.
