D&D 5E (2014) Dungeoncraft Interview with Mike Mearls

I will also say that despite kinda not always being on board with the changes and ideas @mearls has been showing on his patreon (I am a supporter) for 5E and his Odyssey version (though I've basically stolen his alignment language for my home table), I would 1000% percent play in either of those...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeoncraft Interview with Mike Mearls

Sounds like Vanity Frankenstein 5E! ;) I even kept a lot of 6th through 9th level spells as one-off spells accessible as 10th level ability (but with potential drawbacks) and for use as "ancient magic to be uncovered" in dungeons and the like.

Yeah. I got it as a keepsake and something to share with the curious.

D&D General A.I. D&D Session Transcripts and Summaries Example

This is funny to me because in the game I mentioned above there is a player named Craig. 🤭

D&D General A.I. D&D Session Transcripts and Summaries Example

One of my groups plays over Zoom and I have started using Zoom’s AI tools to write session summaries and they are surprisingly good (though there have been a few hilarious conclusions it makes that requires cleaning up the text). Thanks @Mistwell for inspiring me to try them.

D&D General Reification versus ludification in 5E/6E

Yeah this is basically how I list similar AC in my customer stat blocks. I actually go a step further and list AC with shield and without shield. Yes, I can figure it out on the fly without the number there but when there are multiple hobgoblins, some of which are fighting with sword and shield...

D&D General Reification versus ludification in 5E/6E

Leaving aside the matter of what a stat block represents (which. I personally disagree with vehemently but it doesn’t seem much point in arguing it). . . If you (general you) will indulge me getting on my usual hobby horse for a moment these claims always bug me out because they have never...

D&D General Reification versus ludification in 5E/6E

Sometimes a player needs a meta explanation for the game to go smoothly. Not always, but sometimes. In the first 5e campaign I ran, a PC found himself isolated from the rest of the group (never follow partying hippies to a second location without back up 🤭) and got jumped by a bunch of...

D&D 5E (2024) Circle of the Moon Druid Fix

I couldn’t read the changes in dark mode. Not a big deal (I can switch) but thought you might want to know since I think a lot of people use dark mode

D&D General Reification versus ludification in 5E/6E

I want there to be spells that summon actual animals and ones that summon a pack of spirit animals with special Force damage attacks. But if I had to choose one, for my own preferred flavor I'd pick the former. But then again, I have no fear of cheese weasels. When a druid in my game wildshapes...

Gaming/RPG Fiction Should Make A Comeback

Huh. I read that before it was a novel it was a highly modified d20 Future game.

Gaming/RPG Fiction Should Make A Comeback

I think I prefer books that feel like they could be an RPG setting or are based on a homebrew game. For example, despite some weak writing and some uh problematic stuff, I do enjoy Lawrence Watt-Evans’s Ethshar novels, which has for example several different sources of magic and magic “classes.”...

Like this thread, which I did not notice until today, I have never noticed (or heard of) these disclaimers!

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

It's a fortnight? :p But I don't know, it just seemed like a good number. Do you have another recommendation?

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

My new plan (but don't hold me to it), is to take a break from the boards for the two weeks leading up to a new WotC book release and the two weeks after and to take the last two weeks of December off every year too.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Yeah, the trick for me is I either play with my wife (she not as into video games but does play occasionally) or I sometime play after she's gone to bed for a bit. But the reality is, since having a kid I have not had more than 30 to 60 minutes to play video games at any given time - and since...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Constructs, Plants, Beasts & Humanoids | 2024 Monster Manual | D&D

Do they though? Presumably there is a more economical way to get such stats without buying a whole book just for them. Like using and/updating an older version, finding a version you like online somewhere, or best yet, making it up. Now if there other stuff that might also be useful in an FR...

D&D General Vanity Frankenstein 5E: My homebrew D&D project [+]

Here is a PDF version of the section on new and revised spells for those who are interested. The doc is something like 67 pages long. Actual spell lists however, are listed with their classes (which is how it should be organized, imo). I have playtest ready versions of all 11 classes and 38...

D&D 5E (2014) For those playing 2014 5e, how are you reacting to the 2024 update?

In the process of creating my own Vanity Frankenstein of 5E home rules, I have taken from 2024 D&D in a few spots where the change seemed for the better (exhaustion, a handful of spells), but otherwise the basis is 2014 with some 2E and 3E thrown in.
