you are absolutely right with what we know now but we still don't have enough data to declare AC 20+ a rare thing in the long run, it may very well be the case for just the Basic game. They put the rule in there with its own subheading and not just in passing, it doesn't seem like they'd do that...

It is a critical but depending on class features you could be getting a critical on another number as well. I think champion archetype gets as low as 18 but 18 isn't necessarily a hit.

A natural 20 is always a hit regardless of the modifiers or the target's AC(page 73). As is a natural 1 always a miss regardless of modifiers or the target's AC. This does give characters a chance to succeed at hitting something that they may not be able to mechanically hit otherwise....how...

I'm not seeing where the rules say you can't hide if you are lightly obscured. Can you point me to the page? The description of lightly obscured even says that the perception check has disadvantage. According to the list of things that count as lightly obscured is: dim light, patchy fog, or...

yeah the OGL isn't one I'd use for art either but some have used. It would work best for art that was already apart of an OGL publication. Otherwise going CC is probably the best route.

For me when I do use a battle map I'd rather have the grids, it's way faster than actually measuring. And there would be murders over eyeballing it in one of my groups so for my safety it's a grid :) 1 inch = 5 feet works as well as 1 square = 5feet on a grid. No penalty for turning but...

good list and there are some things I might consider in the future...now though I just want to play the game as written until I get a feel for what works in actual play vs thought experiments.

rpgnow has a lot of stock art types of products just search for stock art to get things started. IRC not all of them are OGL perse but have generous reuse licenses.
