Just want to say this was my intended meaning. I would think brushing against the rails being a much more common way of "revealing the railroad" than any actual push. If it comes to push that usually indicates the rail has been known for a while, and the players are getting sick of it.

So what does perfection of vision mean? If it mean the vision include absolutely everything that is ever going to happen in the game, then I think noone would ever dream of disagreeing with that statement. However if the vision is less than everything I think it really depends on how much less...

I like your distinction. In my terminology "linear" would be an umbrella term for all of these. I also think the category of overt railroad should not be forgotten. That would be the one where the dragons appears and tell you to get back on track if you stumble outside. I agree running a linear...

As for preferences, that would just be upresise language. I don't want a railroad either, but I have a lot of linear experiences I would love to try. Trouble is that I think you also have characterised former experiences as feeling "railroady" rather than "linear", and pointed to certain...

I think this example falls into the well known category that it is generally acceptable to use certain terms when using it in-group, even if it would be totally unacceptable if used about someone else?

The reason people make this distinction is because this is the distinction. Yes, the experience might turn out basically the same, but the mindset is different. Which means when you are calling some play for "railroad" rather than "linear", this come across as if you are actually making claims...

The trouble is that the same practices can make play less or more fun dependent on the person or circumstances. If I am so lucky to get into a game of Halls of Arden Vul, or classic Dragonlance, I would expect the source material to be followed quite to the letter, and be deeply disapointed if...

That case might be railroading. But your question that I replied to was way more general than that :)

A railroad requires a track. A enemy checkpoint over the road you are currently traveling, forcing you make a choice of how to proceed, is a blockade. It is more or less the opposite of a railroad.

    Draw Steel News

Digging trough the book slowly, now on page 250 I got to the more common word descriptions. Short story: there is a minor simple matrix between tier and difficulty that produces the more common terms. As such a bit hard to imagine them finding anything flavorful when even tier 1 is sort of a...

What is hard for me is to recognise what is encyclopedia, and what is rules worthwhile reading. For instance you might think you could skip class entries completely - but some golden nuggets about how the game works are burried deep in it, like the green elementalst's shape shifting. The key...

What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

Fastest I can see anyone can move without powers are move + main action degraded to move (which from my reading do not trigger bleed). If you get into a position where you are not chargeable this should be enough to prevent melee main action against you. Similar if you get cover against line of...

What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

The critical difference between draw steel and all the D&D editions is that the character remains conscious but with discurraged to do offensive actions when under 0. This gives a more obvious retreat point. Also a chase scene might break out of combat, in which free recoveries come into play -...

I see. So it seem to me like yor concern is more about procedural matters like pacing and rules application, than the created content itself?

Yes? This was what I assumed when I wrote my post?

There seem to me to be a subtle, but essential difference between "Unless this is totally foreign to the area," and "unless a bluff like that isn't in the area".

This example is a bit interesting to me. First of: I assume you agree that one of the GMs tasks in more dynamic play (not map and key), is to figure out things that complicates what the player characters try to acheive? In order to do so the GM need to have an idea about what the characters try...

How about the stronghold location described here? I think this example is interesting. I didn't see it much discussed when it first came up. An important observation is that this rule is not player facing. Question is if this had been a player facing rule; would this be problematic, or would...

    Draw Steel News

My reading on the situation was that they know Daggerheart is in the wind right now. They know they cannot really compete for media attention in that environement, and that they are hence waiting for the physical release for their PR-push.

What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

Some observations based on my first impression skimming the pdfs. Draw steel seem to have significantly more focus on battlefield positioning. Also the heroic resource management seem important for all classes - there isn't a similar theme for all classes in PF2. At first glance it seem less...
