    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

throw it away? hell no I spent to much money on that crap. Sell it on eBay? yeah that the ticket! down to just to books to sell. I am keeping my slip case PH/DMG/MM set because its pretty and while I will never play the game again I am collector.

    The DUNE RPG

I won a copy of that at my FLGS by winning a L5R CCG tournament and two days later it was announce that it was OOP and a masive collectors item. its still on my shelf, its a solid rule set and yet another reason WOTC and Hasbro can suck it.

    Changing Divine classes.

What you want sounds a lot like Harn divine magic or even Runequest Gs rune magic, limited spell list by god/cult, magic powered by points earned by doing things the god/cult wants. have to do the works of our lordess and savior the queen of murder hobos, for every senseless killing of a random...

How long should a gaming session be?

I used to like 3-4 hour sessions in my youth, with my kids (8yo boy narativist, 11yo girl dramatist, 12yo girl murder hobo) my sessions are 90 min to 2 hours. Anything longer and the 8 yo and 12 yo get bored. If I could fine a group of adults (age wise, maturity level is negotiable) to play with...

    Play Something Else

We are not old, just very experienced. I could never understand the desire to stick with one rule set. We played an average of 3 different RPG rules and 2 or 3 wargame rules sets every week in high school. I ran TMNT and Mega Traveller, another friend wrangled Cyberpunk and FASA Startrek and yet...

    Which do you prefer?

Been GMing for almost 40 years, and a dozen different systems. I am tired. I voted Player but finding a non DnD 5e game anywhere seem to be mission nearly impossible these days.

Recurring silly comment about Apocalypse World and similar RPGs

My kids (8,10,12) wanted to play Root but just like dad they failed to grok (grok is still a think right?) PBTAs Moves. So I just defaulted to my Classic traveller Referee mode and ran it like that. We kept the No, Yes but, Yes dice mechanics and it played fine that way.

    Peregrine's Nest: Candela Obscura Review

Took a look at this and Vaesen, Vaesen won by a mile. V has no meta currencies, good character progression, a realistic setting that is easily changed, much better and clearly written rules and several supplements and investigations already published. CO leans to far into narrative games for me...

Best Selling Fantasy RPGs Sold on DriveThruRPG for 2023

I must be into niche games more than I thought, I only bought two of those. Dragonbane and Nochet (itself a supplement for a niche game…). Interesting that most of the top sellers are more traditional games/complex games and none of the “narrative first” story games are in there. Correction I...

Shadowdark books are in! Fulfillment begins in the next day or two!

Not bad fulfillment, only 5ish months late. Thats pretty good for as large as it was and being a small company.

MCDM's New Tactical TTRPG Hits $1M Crowdfunding On First Day!

Having the lvl 1 mechanics sort of hashed out is nowhere near the point at which I would say you could get a feel for the game. this is an unfinished manuscript that's missing at least 80% of what it needs to be complete and ready for editing.

Game Design: Good average chances of success for all situations?

I love me some necro threads! I love DGP-CT/MT task resolution, it was simple but with enough granularity to account for time pressure (or lack there of) and presents PCs as competent. My biggest pet peeve in rpgs is the incompetent PC. If that the character concept the player wants its fine...

How Crunchy is Too Crunchy, For You Personally

Role master and Harnmaster are IMHO not very crunchy in play (I am in the minority here but I have also actually played them), character gen is detailed but in play its usually making a percentile roll for skills. Sure combat gets detailed but it usually doesn't last very long and the injury...

How Crunchy is Too Crunchy, For You Personally

100% depends on where the complexity sits with in the game. Character gen is a place I have a high tolerance for complexity (I like life path systems that feed into skill based play systems). At the table I want the game to provide enough granularity to support the setting and some depth of play...

Official Adventure Time RPG Uses New 'Yes And' System

It was always a money grab, the money is all in 5e and paying game designers to build new systems would cut into those profits already made thin by licensing fees.
