Instead of High power vs low power, high risk vs Low risk is maybe a better way to approach it. I have played mostly player skill based systems and while highly skilled characters are powerful a farmer with a pitch fork can absolutely end them. One of the major benefits of Dragonbane is...
The beauty of Dragonbane it that it can work for Xoth and hardcore games like what S’mon is doing here:
And it works great for my kids (7b,10g,11g) who want more shenanigans, goblin smashing and adventure with out the dying. As for me it saves me from having to GM DnD 5e or one of the zillions...
Oh look its “not” blades in the dark…just what we need. How is the narrative style of FITD going to work with the GM heavy style of CR? Seems like a weird choice.
Pendragon fits harn well if you tone down the passions rules, Dragonbane from free league is basically fantasy pendragon minus all the heroic overly dramatic knights. Magic World is a great BRP system from Chaosium that works very well for low magic skill based settings.
Question for the couple of folks who have been running DB games, I am switching from 5e to DB for my kids home game. I am converting their 4th lvl characters over now, skills and heroic abilities were easy my problem is how many advancement rolls would you equate to a lvl? My best guess is an...
The for profit company that promoted this is Ethisphere, they are essentially a two sided business. One side provided external evaluation of a corporations legal department and C-suite operations the other half is PR/good will building for hire.
Companies like Ethisphere (there are so so many)...
I won’t run or play class/level games anymore so skills are the only way for me. I feel like ~30 skills is good for most fantasy games, modern and scifi games will often need more than that but top out at around 40.
I did this using hit dice to refill spell slots and class features instead of getting everything back on a rest. Players had to decide between healing and getting their special stuff back. I liked it a lot as a GM the players were unsure lol.
Game mechanics that support and enhance the intended genre and play style, common (not universal) resolution system, realistic combat and injuries, NO: classes, levels, AC, hit points.
I wrote a hack to 5e a while ago to address this issue. It uses existing conditions in 5e bundled into three wound states; Bruised, Wounded, and Maimed in order to give consequences to taking damage.Part of it is the reduction of hit points to wound boxes based on the three physical stats and...
I have so many games in my collection this would be novel length if I had a go at it. Major difference between me and OP is I have never liked DnD or any of its derivatives but have enjoined nearly every other system I have played.
Getting my kids switched over from dnd5e now, I actually prefer the longer skill list but I am old hat BRP and other skill based games. In fact until I started the 5e pandemic game I haded played a class and level game since 5th grade in 1986.
If you are looking for some actual help on the rules the BRP Central - The Chaosium forums forums is the place to go. The staff from Chaosium is on there as well as the best online forum for Chaosium and BRP based games.
Backed it right away after I read the quickstart. I have been involved in the playtest forum and it has been fun to tinker and comment on a game inprogress.
When talking about starwars ttrpgs people over look how prolific WEG starwars was. Lucas sent novel writers the source book as reference material and it was considered cannon. It spawned 3 editions and well over 100 rule books, source books and adventures. What killed WEG SW was bad business...
The way they PR talked the response (Marisha would be a good political spokesperson) makes me think they already signed the new OGL or more likely one of WOTCs super secret special agreements and have no way to back out with out damaging their company plus 100% NDA has been signed.
