    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

A very roundabout reasoning I have. Basically going first, with debuffing masteries (even though we are talking dmg) Does significantly boost your own dmg (not just survivability), because it craps on the opportunity for the opposition to land their own debuffs/control, it just makes their...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

I don't know, especially PVP, majority team initiative means alot if you're talking about some of the weapon mastery effects, closing the distance for opponent's disadvantage (without the feat). Even a whimpy sap weapon, striking first, can start getting real lopsided on an "all 🥚 in 1 basket"...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Yes, the extra fighting style does more than you may think, just not in a flashy way. Imagine if 2 of those champions are duelist with protection fighting style... you sure better split those two up (except without heavy metagaming you would not immediately split them up). Also, again, in a 5v5...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Arise chicken, arise!!! Fun little project :) I'm slightly surprised it went that way without cover. But, that advantage on initiative + alert is something I keep ragging on when I am talking about how combat actually shakes out... I suspect going 1st in this arena accounts for alot (as it does...

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

Yeah, that is a little bit of weird duality.

D&D 5E (2024) My Most Epic Fight in Years

Do your players have sweet quips for taking punishment? I tell my players that, movie action style, sometimes taking punishment and responding to that is as impressive as throwing haymakers. I throw around inspiration quite a bit. Stands up, dusts of ash, looks at young red dragon, with a wry...

D&D 5E (2024) My Most Epic Fight in Years

Very nice, I think providing those NPC with intelligent motivations helped this encounter significantly. I've run encounters that severely piss off my players due to thinking they will be TPK'd only to find out the enemy is just trying to incapacitate them or hijack their caravan... intelligent...

... maybe lose out the rest of your action on a failed skill check like with a failed climb check, or failed difficult terrain navigation : egs of equivalent already established concepts

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

I don't personally prefer killing action economy for things that should be lumped in with movement or something a martial should just be able to do.

Add in athletics rolls/appropriate skills to pull off some of the more involved ones, then the champs athletics bonus is nice or the barbarians advantage ties in nicely. Battlemaster could forego any skill rolls since they are masters & all

    D&D 5E (2024) Strategies and Tactics Barbarian (2024)

"Sword" & board barb can be a nicely different way to play. I've played the "shield mastery" zealot, Because our group doesn't pack much healing. I have pretty great stats so my unarmored AC is pretty ridiculous on the guy at baseline while being quite mobile. I like that I can play him...

It is a byproduct of having too many beloved character ideas... but always being DM

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

The VTT I use makes class-based NPC pretty manageable, so I sprinkle some in, usually with some unpredictable abilities. If they are likely to fight the party, they typically run as a single leader to a group of monsters as too many classed NPC are too much for me to manage. I also like giving...

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

They should honestly just expand fighting styles for some of these more generalized options. So some of these could be pay-walled via limited fighting style choices. If you want to be a technique-driven fighter, the sacrifice could be to spend a feat on additional fighting style, but not get the...

D&D 5E (2024) What battlemaster maneuver would you allow to be used at-will, if any, but without adding die roll to the effect of it?

If your ally (barbarian) has a source of advantage running , it could add a little bit of timing twist to things

Commander's strike seems fair... sac an attack to open up a reaction attack for an ally

D&D 5E (2024) How's the adoption of the new Goliath types going?

😉 tangent! I dislike the characterization of DnD elves. Even visually I can't get past the dildo-ears. I get WoW doing that where you cartoon up and overblow things for visual representation... but I still don't like it. I am big on less-is-more, I am not confident WoTC would make the Goliath...
