I don't really have a dog in this fight but I don't believe this is what's being asserted. I think what's being asserted is that in order for something to be judged better or worse for a particular task... the parameters for what makes said task better or worse must first be set.

I think a basic social media hot take, especially if they are in the same industry and circles as you are creating/publishing in, reveals alot and isn't too much trouble. Otherwise being apathetic can also loose you business and sales. For me as an African-American gamer... this is important...

Different strokes for different folks... i don't see this enough in OSR culture for it to become my main gripe... especially compared to the issues of racism, homophobia, transphobia and mysogny along with the willingness of the bigger names in the community to accept it by trying to stay neutral.

Vs... A game fans are happily playing with a ruleset they are by definition fans of already, regular official support and options from WotC, along with 3pp support for nearly any variation a fan could want... all with the largest ttrpg community to draw players, advice, ideas and suggestions...

I thought the IMO was implying for you since I'm not sure how else you'd determine it for others... especially for WotC fans since you aren't one... 5e probably has the largest user base of any edition of D&D and one of if, not the most, mindshare of any D&D edition with the mainstream public...

I feel like these changes would have almost certainnly created more powerful PC builds (especially with unforseen ramifications with different combinations)...which in a game that already gets complaints of PC's being too powerful probably wouldnt have been well received.

Nah, it really wasn't Can you? Because the base mechanical foundation... saving throws, attribute bonuses, spellcasting, and so on are all completely different. While '14 and '24 D&D 5e all have, at the least, the same base mechanical foundation.
