D&D 5E (2014) Your Favorite Sandbox Support Materials

A couple of my go to resources... Worlds Without Number by Kevin Crawford... just get it. There's a free version on Drivethrurpg though I highly suggest supporting this designer by getting the paid version. It is hands down one of the best sandbox toolboxes created...IMO. Vast in the Dark...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Definitely agree here so if the vast majority of us are going to grab the MM... why not tell me how the LU book or TotV can enhance what I'm already going to get as opposed to why I should grab it instead.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Nope not an either-or (and i wish it was framed more as how do these books complement each other vs. Which is better) and I'm actually curious about the level up book now... debating whether to grab the pdf or not (probably will later today)... but it will be along with the MM if I do.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

I didn't see anywhere i said the MM was a better book... I did say At first glance one layout seemed more crowded... still didnt say one book was better than the other. In fact I said my opinion could change with use of the actual books... so no you didn't quote me saying the MM was a better...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Yeah at this point we are talking past each other the claim was about how useful one book vs. The other is without having seen one book. You're willing to accept that a couple of pages is enough to determine that... I'm not. There's no seeing eye to eye here. So we should agree to disagree...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

No, I'm saying even something like the layout of the book contributes to usability. That's why to me it's such an absurd claim without having seen the book. Again missin the point, the claim wasn't whether a single monster was more usable than another it was on whether one book was more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Then you should also expect to get called out on the fact that you have no real experience driving car B but made an assertion about that very thing. You have the right to your oppinion... not for the right to it never being questioned or scrutinized... Or is that the acttual argument, that you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Yes but if claims are made about something as a whole in practice... the minimum would logically be the whole product in practice. The claim itself can set the parameters. Or is claiming car A handles better than car B even though you've never driven car B and it doesn't go on sale for another...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

For arguments sak let's say it is everything, any way the book could or does make the monsters in them more useabe (thought I don't think it is) Too much information often detracts from usability and it's not just that it's also the actual design of the book... that's what I mean by how easy...

D&D General Players: Do You Care From Whence Your DM Gets His Monsters/Challenges?

Source doesn't matter for me or the other DM in our group. However we tend to reskin stats and change lore as we see fit with any monsters we use (though we keep any changes consistent within a campaign world). It keeps the game exciting for the old hats in our group and the newer players don't...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

W I'm talking about taking a product (Monster Menagerie)which has been released, can be used and viewed in its entirety and has been for a while and then using a few previews of another product (Monster Manual) to then state definitively one product(Monster Menagerie) is more usable than the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Usability...not stats. That's something that plays out with longterm usage and getting feedback as people use the books in their entirety in the contexts of their games. It's not just comparing one stat block to another. Edit: as an example how do you determine which has better usability...

Most DM's homebrew... that includes monsters. Some lore cool... a ton most aren't going to use or only use once... not cool. It's pretty simple.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Yep im aware... Not enough to judge the entirety and usability of an entire book vs an entire book. Especially the usability part... you know because we'll we'd have to see the book...being...used.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

The problem with set treasure is how useful is it longterm vs a table with multiple entries and results. If I'm doing a one shot or a random one off monster... great. But if I'm running a campaign that features a monster or group of monsters heavily.... I might get 1 or 2 uses before my...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

I'll ignore the childish quip and try to answer this respectfully... Im not going to admit I'm wrong because what you find useful or more usable isn't necessarily what I would. Initially you made a blanket statement with no criteria and no access to one of the books... that was my main...

You seem to be addressing absolutely nothing I've actually stated. Honest critiques like the one made on the 2024 MM in this very thread? The one that isn't out yet? That type of honest critique?
