D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

Inquiring minds also want to now know if different color dragons and have babies together? Would a red dragon and a blue dragon create a purple dragon, or just pick from one of the parents like 5.5e PCs?

To play, or not to play.....that is the question.

I do not think I ever read the site rules before. Don't be a jerk seems to be the overarching theme. I would add that sometimes it is ok to disengage with the others. I have found that some have a need to get in the final word or be right, according to them at least. If someone comes back...

Does Your Game Have Random Encounters?

I use them to fill places in the game or when the PCs do something such as try to sleep in the dungeon. I tend to fill the dungeon with more standard encounters and leave places that group encounters together depending on how the PCs go about things. A cluster of rooms may/should hear combat...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

I do not play these video games but would like some sort of crossover. I have a campaign around Neverwinter and look online for resources and end up finding things that tie in with the video game such as a ruin or village and it is not in the more 'official' books and products. I would likely...

Worlds of Design: Life in the Big City

This reminds me of the TV series, Pillars of the Earth from 2010, based on the book by Ken Follett. A village springs up at a river crossing and a cathedral is built on that location. There was a lot of things in the series as the town grows that I though was really cool. What is means to be...

OSR What's more important for a retroclone?

This is what I was thinking. I could just play 1e if I ever had that itch. If there was something that was similar but 'fixed' most of the issues, then I might want to choose that. As of now, I have no desire for 1e/2e and see 3e/4e as improvements over those older editions that I would...

    How Special Are The PCs?

My games tend to depend on the level of the PCs. In D&D terms, level 1 PCs are only slightly better than most everyone else. Guards, bandits and most merchant laborers are able to go a few rounds with the PCs and a couple of them should get the better of a PC. By the time the PCs are level 5...

DDAL Elven chain armour. do you need light armour proficiency?

I think RAW is no you do not need any proficiency, but I would rule RAI as needing light. I think this magic item granting you the trained ability negates needing training. I would think that boosting your AC would need some sort of training though, even the most basic of light armor.

I first read this as HAM PERSON.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

I like the idea of returning to the table more... But they just spend the last couple years telling me that online microtransactions were the future. Something about a billion-dollar-franchise. It would be cool if they had an online tool that allowed me to drag and drop items like monster...

Tall vs broad advancement in RPGs

I think I'm more of a D&D tall advancement player. I like the zero-to-hero advancement. I also like what 5e did with spreading out the 'sweet spot' of levels to play longer in the levels of not struggling, but before things get too easy to overcome everything. Goes to the threads about...

D&D General Friday Fun: Explain A D&D Thing Badly

It represents how much blood you have left before you die. You gain them all back the next morning though.

    D&D General Secret Curse Help

Give a magic item out like something that grants +5 to Perception and Investigation checks. Have another cool ability if you want. The PC that takes this item is now the patsy of the curse. You can give information to them and they will thing that it is the item being cool.

What makes Arthurian fantasy its own genre, different from more traditional D&D-ish medieval fantasy? What are some Arthurian-style plots?

I have always pictured big quests with lots of suffering. The knights all seem about 5th level before getting one though and they last another several levels. There is a lot of searching for locations and lost books of knowledge.

Approaching writing adventures for home games?

I might take an idea from a PC. Perhaps he has a history event or ongoing feud or such. I had one PC who's background had him owing a debt for freedom and after several levels of adventuring, I made an adventure with a collector coming around and offering to cancel it for a specific mission...

    D&D General The Shadow?!?!?!

Well,,,, he does use his powers of invisibility and persuasion over weak minds to fight evil. At first I was confusing my 90s super movies thinking the Shadow was Billy Zane. I guess they have the same first name.

Is it appropriate to post a list of games I'm selling off at a discount?

On one hand I do not want the site to become clogged with people trying to sell me junk, there is enough ads floating around my screen right now. Other hand is if you are looking to sell to people you like and think want certain things related to the site then put something in promotions.
