That they could keep them under control. Perhaps if the ship had been called Isla Nublar?

    Starting Daggerheart campaign. Any pitfalls?

If anyone here is on Bluesky, Rob Donoghue is a great follow. He's done a few deep dives and is providing a lot of insight.

What makes a successful superhero game?

I've done a FATE Superheros campaign and tried Masks and Blood of Heros ... where I practically ragequit during char gen. And my take is if I need a spreadsheet to build my character, I'm out. That said, the other, highly narrative campaigns also were challenging. Masks ... because actual...

What are your thoughts on TTRPGs with non-standard dice?

... With the exception of Fudge Dice, I'm generally not a fan. Especially if these are dice with special iconography.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

I wish they'd hire more extras, then maybe I'd have a shot of getting onto the show.

    Star Wars: Andor

So many good speeches. It's up there with Babylon 5 for great monologues. As others have noted, Mon Mothma gets a banger of a speech in S2 ... but I have to give credit to her scene with Tay in E7: Announcement Mon: "What you see, what people say about me, it's a clear picture, isn't it. I'm...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

I thought we'd gotten some weird crossover with the Expanse, because he looked like Jim Holden.

D&D 5E (2024) How excited are you for the 2 upcoming Forgotten Realms books?

A few months ago, I was a lock for at least the player's book. Was trying to get a 5e24 campaign launched and while I probably wouldn't run a campaign in Forgotten Realms, I'd at least want the new subclasses. But then Daggerheart came along and stole me and my players away, lol. The system is...

    Starting Daggerheart campaign. Any pitfalls?

Honestly, I'd have dropped Beast Feast as a campaign frame if there isn't buy in on the food concept. I get it, it's why I wouldn't pitch that as a campaign in the first place, and this just feels like a bad fit for the group. I do wish I'd backed that expanded Bestiary that was kickstarted ...

This is what I've been doing to quickly add some DnD/MTG ancestries to the game: Aven / Aaracokra: Elf (Quick Reactions) + Faerie (Wings) Naga (started by looking at Amonkhet): Drakona (Scales) + Orc (Tusks - renamed to Fangs) Lizardfolk: Drakona (Scales) + Firbolg (Unshakeable) Harengon...

    Spoilers Alien: Earth Spoiler Thread

Congrats to Noah Hawley, I haven't found the Xenomorphs this scary since probably the first two movies. Had to actually pause a few times. Also loving that it's not just Xenomorphs, the Maginot was collecting all sorts of terrors.

    Starting Daggerheart campaign. Any pitfalls?

Now, to be clear, I err on the side of allowing an experience to be used because the player has to spend the Hope (or Stress in the case of the Knowledge Wizard, which is why it's such a potent ability), so a "too broad" experience still has to be paid for. So I'm not sure if it's an actual...

    Starting Daggerheart campaign. Any pitfalls?

Derrick from Knights of the Last Call has been banging this particular drum and it's been a common enough discussion on the Daggerheart subreddit. The general rationale is that Druid's Beastforms can get higher stats than other PCs that focused on those stats, several Beastforms give permanent...

I would "lock" the bonus domain cards to when the player chose that level up option, but ... Let's say a player grabbed a third level 1 domain card when they leveled up to 2. If they later wanted to swap a level 1 to a level 2 card, I'd allow that. So iow, ignoring bonus domain cards, a PC...

    Imprinting on media

45 here ... so yeah, I grew up with TNG, and yes imprinted heavily on Star Trek, Babylon 5 (hence the avatar) and Buffy. Star Wars was always there for me. So, on reboots and later adaptations ... I liked the Kelvin era Trek movies well enough, Beyond is my fav because it is the most we get of...

    Ranking the Star Treks

I have to give Prodigy another go, the first two episodes didn't draw me in. Also unranked is TAS. I'm setting the films aside, as a separate thing, as it feels unfair to rank a whole series next to a singular films. Top Tier Trek: 1. TNG - Still "my" Trek. Grew up with Picard and company. One...

That said, dropping 10 Fear to spotlight 5 Spectral Guardians and let each use their Fear move against every PC at the table is a heck of a dramatic way to open a combat encounter. It might not have been the wisest move tactically, but it was fun.
