    Starting Daggerheart campaign. Any pitfalls?

Cosign on the importance of Stress. I actually think stamina potions are actually more important than healing potions. Oh, and be sure to use consumables proactively, this isn't 5e where it's often valid to wait until a PC falls before using a potion.

Not really, the formula is (3x number of PCs)+2, so 20 pts to spend. Thing is, it's mainly spending Fear that determines the difficulty, as the GM can focus fire more easily than the players, if they spend the Fear.

    Starting Daggerheart campaign. Any pitfalls?

I've seen arguments that the Druid is overpowered, but no complaints about other Core classes being weak. All my players followed the class guidelines for stats and it's been fine. The School of Knowledge Wizard has really impressed me. Spending Stress to activate Experiences has proven to be...

I didn't mean to be dismissive, obviously combat taking too long is bad. And I feel like Daggerheart is hitting those desires. Sure, only 2 sessions is hardly representative data, but each 3-4 hour session has had 2 combat encounters, some non combat scenes, char gen and leveling up and, as I...

Faster is an odd measurement, because I don't use a stopwatch or time combat ... so while I think combat takes the same amount of time or possibly longer than 5e ... how that time is spent is much different. I haven't seen a player check their phone because their turn is done and they won't be...

Yes, the other advantage of no initiative is it is easy to simply end a fight when it's clearly dramatically over. Adversaries aren't locked into initiative and worried about attack of opportunities (well ... I do have a Warrior, but that ability hasn't really triggered yet), so I haven't felt...

I have to second everything @overgeeked just said and add ... cards. Cards are great. We only have two copies of the Daggerheart book for a table of 6. And one has stayed shut almost all the time. When leveling up and character generation, there was no passing around the books over and over...

Brennan Lee Mulligan to GM Critical Role Campaign 4

Simply put, each player has 3 tokens. Spend one to take the spotlight, once each player has expended all three of their tokens, they all refresh. I haven't had to use it, players are good about jumping in and making sure everyone is contributing.

Brennan Lee Mulligan to GM Critical Role Campaign 4

Daggerheart's main advantage is there is no initiative, so I've found it more fluid and that keeps players engaged. I don't know whether or not it stalls out with a large party or not (I have 5 PCs), but I imagine that fluidity should help in that respect at least. TBH, even with Brennan (who I...

    What's Your Price Limit?

Limit is a nebulous thing. I will say, one of the reasons I jumped into Daggerheart was seeing a cheap pre-order price on Amazon, that was a good $15-20 cheaper than FLGSes, and even at full price ... the book and full set of cards definitely made me like I was getting good value for the money.

New Daggerheart Kickstarter Announced, Chris Perkins, Jeremy Crawford's Plans Revealed

R I'm already a little jealous of the Gen Con alt art cards. Darnit, I already have MTG draining my wallet for shiny cardboard, Daggerheart wasn't supposed to do that!

Oh, I've disliked rolling for stats since 3.5 DnD. 4e going to point-buy as standard was a selling point for me. Haven't looked back, though I allowed rolling once, when 5e launched, as a convention one-shot. And the Monk rolling double 18s certainly gave me the wrong impression of class balance!

    Draw Steel News

I think the sci-fi-isms are causing me issues. Daggerheart used a lot of DnD terminology to quickly on board me. Sure, there's occasional bumps and twists, like, oh, Daggerheart Wizards can heal? Sorcerers share domains with Druids and Rogues?, but in general, I know what a Wizard is and a Druid...

I just view rolling for stats as an old vestigial part of RPGs, I don't allow it in DnD anymore (except for maybe a one-shot) and avoid it everywhere else.

New Daggerheart Kickstarter Announced, Chris Perkins, Jeremy Crawford's Plans Revealed

It's hard to get a sense of scale here in the niche world of RPGs, and I certainly don't claim any particular insight into it, but I do feel like this is Darrington going through a fairly major scaling up process. That said, they're early on. Just because they signed two ex-WotC designers...

I'm not against spending a Fear to "Compel" a PC experience. Oh that mayor's son was assassinated by the Sapphire Syndicate so best not let your affiliation get out. Tbh, I've been thinking of ways to spend Fear outside of combat and making pseudo compels seems like a good idea.

Well, TBF ... I did just run a single Solo against 5 PCs and while they weren't fully rested, this battle was not a cakewalk and if I'd had the Flickerfly focus fire on a PC, I could have downed one. The Wizard and Warrior both got rocked in the battle. Overall, I've found combat math accurate...

As a GM, which monster do you find the most difficult to role-play?

All of them once we're in combat. I find I can focus too much on the mechanics of the creatures and less on their personality when I'm trying to manage a battle.

Daggerheart sold out third printing this morning, from GenCon

I'm happy for their success, though I imagine it's frustrating for those that haven't gotten their copies yet
