D&D General Dumb Idea: Hit Points As Ablative Plot Armor That Doesn't Regenerate

Interesting. What do you think is gained by separating it out like that? And do you think they would run out of "lives" faster than if you just counted HP/plot armor?

D&D General Dumb Idea: Hit Points As Ablative Plot Armor That Doesn't Regenerate

I do think a "knockout threshold" of some sort would be useful to alleviate a little of that. And you would want to do some math to actually know where those thresholds lie. For example, before I did my math I expected 1000HP to be much higher level than 9th or 10th.

D&D General Dumb Idea: Hit Points As Ablative Plot Armor That Doesn't Regenerate

I picked 1000 HP out of a hat, so let's do some math. Where would the number have to be to achieve the desired result. Hit point increases are regular, so that helps. And CR is pretty much exclusively based on damage output. So, to make things easy, let's assume that on average a character...

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

There are ostensibly a huge number of additional customers than there were when 5E launched (maybe an order of magnitude more). That strongly suggests that WotC can diversify the D&D lineup without losing money on any given book because they don't have to sell every book to every customer in...

D&D General Dumb Idea: Hit Points As Ablative Plot Armor That Doesn't Regenerate

As the title says, this is a dumb idea but it might be an interesting thought experiment. What if instead of "health" or "willpower" or whatever, Hit Points were explicit Plot Armor points? And what if once that Plot Armor is gone, your character dies? NOTE: This would be a PCs only rule. It...

Daggerheart Class Packs kickstarter is live.

Almost certainly. It seems probable that this one came as it did because there wasn't a ton of new work that needed completed to get it live. A setting, adventure or supplement is going to take some time. I still think these things are probably significantly more realistically priced than the...

I don't own the game. I was asking about it to determine whether I would be interested. Some posters seem to suggest these scenes are fundamental to play, which tamps down my interest. I don't understand the hostility here.

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

What a weird stance given how many non-WotC books are produced -- many of which are currently available from WotC's Wannabe Steam-like storefront. It must be very difficult for them to exist in this quantum state where there are more players than ever and D&D is the most successful it has ever...

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

Do you think the markets are the same? Do you think the number of players is the same? Do you think the way people interact with the game is the same? On top of that, is throwing a half a billion dollars at a studio that will almost surely close before a game is released be "profitable"?

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

I think Shadowdark qualifies as rules light, with its approach to both PCs and monsters. It does have lots of subsystems, tho. They are all simple but they are there.

Yeah, there's nothing worse that a deep pool of talent to draw from, with the side effect of those people getting decent wages and benefits in the process.

I'm not even an immersion person, but cut scenes the players are privy to without their characters present feels off to me.

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

Off the top of my head, "Fiddly" but I could see an argument that it is its own category -- or, at least, a Lots of Detailed Subsystems Complexity category.

Right. Put those 200 people on D&D books. If the 10 million active players line has any truth to it, making a profit should be easy.

Is the GM expected to perform a one person show for the players when their PCs aren't present?

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

Interesting. I don't see that as system complexity.
