    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

This is one of those times that I am.inclined to trust the design. This game had a lot of testing. I bet 5 is the limit for a reason.

Daggerheart "Description on Demand" a GM DON'T

First of all,we should not take anything the Alexandrian writes particularly seriously. Second, asking players to fill in details, either through description or world building, CAN break immersion for certain players. You kind of have to know your players and whether they care about immersion...

Something tells me you should definitely check out Dragonbane. It seems your jam.

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

Maybe someone who is a strong proponent can lay out a detailed example. @payn or @overgeeked or @Charlaquin ?

    Acquisitions Inc. switching to Daggerheart

I agree that DH hits a very nice balance of supporting the narrative elements to whatever degree the group prefers.

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

I guess I don't really understand the perameters of "skilled play." I don't understand how you can set up a puzzle for the players (in the form of a trap, an encounter, or a literal puzzle) and not have a deep understanding of its workings if what you want is for the players to discover the...

Homebrew What makes for a perfect base hub for adventures?

I have been in love since the one you could cut out of Dragon Magazine. I don't think I have ever used an alternate deck (as opposed to the one in the DMG of the edition I was running).

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

Do you come up with the parameters and solution ahead of time? It seems one must for it to be about "player skill" and not "I like the player's idea" right?

What are you reading in 2025?

It's so weird that people love that book so much. I listened to it and essentially don't remember a single thing about it. I mean, it isn't bad per se, but completely forgettable for me.

Homebrew What makes for a perfect base hub for adventures?

I have DoMT problem: I have it show up in every D&D campaign I run (and sometimes in campaigns that aren't D&D, or even fantasy).

I am unfamiliar with Bluebeard's Bride. Can you explain what you mean?

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

To clarify, I was more looking for how you, as GM, enhance that sparse description in the module to signal to the players that it is "player skill" time. And then what details do you add for yourself that let's you adjudicate if the players are doing it correctly.

I must have missed the DoMT in The Great Glass Elevator.

I was reminded of this because an ad for the KS came across my Facebook feed. We are getting later into the year. Has anyone heard anything new on this game?

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

Fate is interesting because it serves as a light crunch foundation to some games that reach into the medium or even high crunch categories (the original Dresden RPG, as well as Daring Comics).

Homebrew What makes for a perfect base hub for adventures?

In one campaign, the party took a liking to a weird dungeon I included that had been an outpost by alien planar explorers, full of strange machinery and apparently random traps and, importantly, a massive Probability machine that was essentially an installed, immobile Deck of many things. So...

Paizo Ends Pathfinder Adventure Path Softcovers, Switching to Quarterly Model

@James Jacobs I am curious if the format is otherwise going to change. Will there be the same amount of "additional information" like new monsters, new items, location write ups, etc. as there were in 3 volumes?

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

Let's say there is a room description in a module that says "There is a swinging blade trap in the fireplace mantle. Anyone searching the fireplace must make a save..." How do you (anyone, not just Scribe) turn that into a "player skill" situation?
