Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

While that can be a problem, I am not sure it adds anything to the discussion. If we go there, we have to then include things like overly "artsy" layout and graphic design, which I don't think qualifies.

Fabula Ultima Hardback & Bestiary Vol. 1 Kickstarter

So if you have never played a JRPG (other than about 16 minutes of FF7 back when that was all the rage) is there anything in FU* for you. *well, that's unfortunate.

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

I wonder if we can classify the different kinds of complexity and assess their relative popularity. Player Facing Option Complexity seems to be both the most common and most popular form of complexity. lots of classes, feats, talents, powers, skills, spells, etc. Even games that are otherwise...

    Trailer The Bride

I am definitely intrigued. I have been looking for more weird and sexy since Beautiful Creatures.

Thank you for the detailed reply.

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

I really wish folks would stop making those comparisons. Even a great co-op CRPG, even one with an accessible level editor, is still not a (V)TTRPG.

I would like to know more about the game, its intended playstyle and loop, etc. Because all JRPG means to me as a CRPG player is "interminable cutscenes."

I think there was a pretty good chance that the core set was deeply unpriced and Darrington took a big hit in order to get folks on board.

This list, by the way, is the kind of thing that makes me believe VTTs can help bring back crunchy systems. most of those things can be automated, which means they will get used, which means they will matter, which means people will actually care about them in character generation and game prep.

    Million Dollar TTRPG Kickstarter Club

I think most of the $1m KSers blew past their funding goals in minutes, historically speaking (though I am sure there are exceptions). DH isn't obscure, and if it was going to be bananas successful, I think it would look more like the national debt ticker.

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

You seem to be ignoring some complexity and emphasizing other sorts, to the point that I don't actually think we are using the same definition of complexity.

    Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

I use it for my 5E 2024 game all the time to roll up NPCs, locations, mutations and other nonsense.

I doubt it, given how slowly it is starting.

    Why?

Daggerheart Class Packs kickstarter is live.

An interesting aspect of this KS is that it is really player focused. If it only gets 1000 backers or so, what does that say (if anything) about the excitement of the player base?

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

A consistent core mechanic across the game's systems is itself inherently less complex than otherwise. Again, 5E has complexity is character build but is very simple in its other systems. AD&D was essentially the opposite.

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

Or they could, you know, put those resources into actual D&D.

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

These aren't actually related, though. I suppose you could say that AD&D is easier to learn because of the ubiquity of D&D in general, but that doesn't say anything about the inherent complexity and granularity of the AD&D rules themselves.

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

I guess I was not clear: how would combat complexity interfere with roleplaying a conversation?
