If your group plays once every week or two, and you want to play a long-term campaign, then you're probably going to pick a game and stick to it for the length of that campaign, say a year. If your group is playing multiple times per week, yeah switching games etc. isn't much of a disruption...

Well they've been dealing with 5e for 10 years, it's sort of ingrained into the brain.. you think of "how you'd do things better" but that's generally going to be a modification of what you're working with, not coming up with something entirely new.

It is so. I think the common wisdom is "people that're going to buy it, will buy it. People that're going to pirate it weren't going to be customers anyway." IMO by refusing PDFs they're just making it less convenient for their customers, they're not really losing out $$ from illicit sources...
