    Grade the Megaversal/Palladium System

This of course is "older me" reflecting on the system I loved as a kid. Truth be told, all my grade school friends and I did was rollup powerful characters to rob banks with, buy crazy gear, rob bigger banks, buy bigger, crazier gear, etc...

    Grade the Megaversal/Palladium System

One thing I will say about the imbalance in power levels is that it lets you tell different kinds of stories within the same system/universe. Taking out Gargoyles with your Triax buddies is going to feel completely different than sneaking through the sewers of Chi Town as a group of City Rat...

@PoC2 That's really cool, never heard of it.

AD&D 1E Seriously contemplating an attempt at a retro AD&D

One thing I will say though, it adds a ton of charm and one of the reasons I'll have a copy on hand till the day I die. Having a ton of esoteric rules kind of adds to the "archaic feeling" of playing something ancient and fantastical IMO. Also, the places where it seems he had a gaming session...

AD&D 1E Seriously contemplating an attempt at a retro AD&D

From my understanding, it came from a demand for more concrete rules from the fans... so he delivered in spades. Also, there were lots of competing products at this time, so the "do whatever you want" attitude could risk sales (since you didn't need D&D to do that). Much safer to have...

AD&D 1E Seriously contemplating an attempt at a retro AD&D

Wow, that is something else. Hats off to those that actually use AC Adjustments in their games. Now to go through all my AD&D OSR games and see how each one does things differently...

AD&D 1E Seriously contemplating an attempt at a retro AD&D

Wait, a short bow can fire twice a round! I've read all my AD&D books over COVID cover to cover and somehow still missed all these rules, haha.

Huh, add that to the pile of AD&D rules I've completely missed and will continue to ignore...

D&D General "The Women of Dungeons & Dragons" USC Library Display Case

That is awesome!!! It really bums me out when I see articles/blogs/posts that run on the assumption that women in the hobby is a recent thing (probably from the rise of more female gamers). As the "The Women in Dungeons and Dragons" sign points out though, there have always been important women...

OSR How much does your party use Retainers, Henchmen and Strongholds?

I like the idea of companions in some fashion to round out the party if needed and always find a way to mechanically tie it to Charisma. I think my latest pipedream setup for my OSR games is every player gets one "actual" character that is more powerful on average (4d6, drop lowest, assigned by...

The history of actual play as entertainment.

The first time I ever saw actual play content was I Hit It with My Axe by TheEscapist (2010). As for what actually paved the way for Critical Role like shows, I think that would have to be Chris Perkins' and Penny Arcade's Acquisitions Incorporated (2008) ... which for some reason I didn't...

    Cookin again

Just made Brazilian "Lemonade" (actually limes) this weekend, pretty tasty. For the adventurous: 4 limes, split 3x (so 1/8s), peel and all 1 can (7 oz.) condensed milk 1/3 cup sugar 4 cups of water 4 cups of ice Blend everything but the ice on a low-ish setting (don't want to blend that peel...

    Cookin again

I constantly buy ginger and green onions. Whatever is left over a couple weeks later I cut up and "sacrifice" to the wok by cutting them up (green onion in 1/3, ginger in slices) and sauteing them in oil over medium heat until they're completely charred, paying attention to press against the...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

For me, in a sea of cringe anime (unrealistic woman, harem BS, whiney/insecure protagonists, etc.), Cowboy Bebop stands out as being "cool". Easy to recommend to "normie" adults interested in anime. Also, that jazzy soundtrack and fighting animation is just perfect, haha.

D&D General D&D Red Box: Who Is The Warrior?

I'm in agreement with most have responded with. Understand there's probably a lot of hateful things being spewed online, but just because I'm not thrilled with this decision doesn't mean I'm on "team terrible". Inclusivity is important to me; I just don't like the way WotC goes about it. It...

D&D General D&D Red Box: Who Is The Warrior?

We're talking about the company who's executive producer said, "In my viewpoint, honestly, guys like me [straight/white] can't leave soon enough for this hobby." I'm tempted to say, there is certainly "a push". Crazy radical idea here: there's room in this hobby for everyone. I hope we can all...
