I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

I dont find it important to have consistency. My aaracokra probably have a totally different culture than the ones in your campaign. (and my elves etc.). And thats a strength of the game. IMO.

What are you reading in 2025?

Yeah, Sanderson (Mistborn, Warbreaker) was an example of good books and good details that I always reccomended. I also bailed after Book 2 of Stormlight. Much sadness.

D&D General Dragonborn In Your Game (A Poll)

See above for lizardfolk. I love saurials, but they don't know that they are descended from the cosmos conquering Carnifex (cribbed from this module)

D&D General Dragonborn In Your Game (A Poll)

All my dragonborn are either lizardfolk sports or divine emissaries. (the divine ones may have wings) The lizardfok (lacerta in my world) as usual for sapient, either revere such mutations or cast them out.

So if it reduces the frequency, it simulates the rarity of that concept in the world lore, as expected? Not for or against per se...its a complicated thing...but working as intended?

What’s a song that makes you cry (not just from sadness, but from feeling too much)?

Since I did 26 years in the military I have two. Both seem very sad...but are also uplifting in a way. and

I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

Well, we may not need it for the game (since all PCs and NPCs fall within the sentient category anyway). But does biology impact sentience or not? Thats tougher. Some claim trees may have a form of sentience*, if they do, would that not have been a product of or affected by their biology...

I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

By the way @Alzrius , my elves all know Elvish as a "racial memory", with some dialect accents. Makes for interesting world building i.e. do elves have a harder time learning languages? What does the ancient elven manuscript say? (Wait, there is no ancient elven language) What do elves write...

I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

Agreed. I think the problem arose in the old days when the designers conflated "elves are agile as species", as an average, with the characteristics of PCs. (See 1st E ability score min/max table) If they had emphasized that PCs are not subject to those guidelines, we might not have these...

Brennan Lee Mulligan to GM Critical Role Campaign 4

I'd only say "likely" if I had some indicators or intel. If I was guessing, I'd say "in my opinion" or "I think". But, I've been told that I'm overly precise with words so...
