How long would learning this "ability" take? That's the answer I usually use. Or take your next level in the class that can do it. Or use a feat. The answer always makes sense in game logic....and they know the meta answer is sometimes balance. I know I'm rambling tonight but if they say...

This is true, but while its a problem they must deal with, its not their fault. Sometimes when we say "That's a SkidAce problem" it comes across as they dug their own hole, etc., as if it was their fault.

Right now, I'm still in the "should I houserule the things I like from 2024 into 2014, or bring the things I like from 2014 into 2024"? Its about even, leaning slightly towards keeping 2014 as the base. Then the cost of the new books (somewhat negligible to me) pushes it a bit further towards...

Well, they are stuck there cause (insert mythos) fell/banished and took them all into Hell with them. So it would seem on a cosmic level they just cant walk out. I use the loophole of needing to be summoned or invited by a mortal. (proper ritual, strength of emotion, etc.)

Of course, @Umbran always explains the point one minute before I do and better. Can you justify that Umbran? :LOL:
