Worlds of Design: When the Clock's Ticking

Cool idea for a prompt! Yes, I've used time stress in my games many times. Not something I do constantly (because it can be exhausting) and not necessarily to get things moving when they've bogged down, though. I just like creating high-pressure moments from time to time. A burning fuse, a...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

Oh, my gosh! I think I just broke the matrix. What if my homebrew setting includes explicit house rules preventing its inclusion in the official D&D multiverse??

    Witcher change up?

Sadly (for me), I'll agree with that. I think it did go off the rails last season. Lost the stakes for some reason and the sense of forward momentum. So I guess change is good in this case because why not?

    Witcher change up?

Ooh! Standalone monster hunting episodes in the world of The Witcher -- sign me up! Granted, I don't think there's any way Netflix would do that.

    Spoilers Alien: Earth Spoiler Thread

Perhaps they were on orders from the queen.... Ha! Was almost able to type that with a straight face. Seriously, though, Aliens is one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. I have every line of dialogue memorized from it.

    Witcher change up?

How Liam would perform in the action sequences was never a concern of mine. That's the easy stuff. But I don't think he has the gravitas to pull off Geralt the character. I'll still give it a try, of course.

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I'm fine when people call out or have to leave early to pick up their kid from dance or soccer practice. People have lives, and regardless of the effort I put into the game...it's still just game night. Disappointing sometimes? Sure. Also inevitable? Yup, that too.

D&D General Kitchen sink setting or narrow genre focus for long-running campaigns (2,5,10+ years)

I'm almost there myself. One-shots, or one-shots with a couple sequels, are becoming more and more appealing to me over time.

D&D General Kitchen sink setting or narrow genre focus for long-running campaigns (2,5,10+ years)

The world is a kitchen sink, but our players may find themselves spending most of their time within one setting in it, especially at lower levels.

I was just playin'. I assumed you had a sense of humor based on your repeated use of a spell called power word castrate to prove a point. My mistake. :)

Nah...most of the time one can tell from a brief human-human interaction with someone whether they know what they're talking about and even ascertain their style. I mean, if one expects/hopes to enter into a campaign lasting dozens or hundreds of hours with someone they don't know from Adam...

That's the second time you've referenced someone using power word castrate. I'm starting to wonder what circles you run in....

Seems like there'd be an easy way to sidestep getting into that predicament though, right? "Hi. Have you DM'd many D&D campaigns before?"

I disagree with the entire spirit of your comment, from top to bottom. I think it's bad. Just thought you should know that, even though you didn't ask for my opinion. See what I did there?

When the DM asks for help. If they don't want help, or don't agree they need it, then it's probably time to bounce. Can't force someone to see things someone else's way, right? All we can do is ask and hope they're receptive to it.

This came up before about Matt. Clealy he's got mad skill, creative flair, and many people love his games, but I'm wirh you. The exposition-heavy style works well for streaming, especially at a table of entertainers and influencers, but it isn't my personal cup of tea. I also like more hack...

1 out of 4 DMs are boring sociopaths with orc fetishes. I don't see how anyone could possibly disagree with that.
