Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

As the father of young kids, there's a lot to unpack here about society in general. It has to do with a lot more than just Disney, much of it quite sad and disappointing.

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

Eh, they covered their bases. In the absence of clarity or consistency, just write "If something doesn't work at your table, change it or throw it out and don't look back." It's easy. It cuts to the chase. Opens a lotta creative doors. Also gives some folks conniptions, but c'est la vie, amirite?

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

Sorry, but glancing over at your Muppet avatar and reading you say, "I do dabble in 5th ed..." made me laugh. Thanks for that.

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

Well met, traveler! Allow me to introduce myself. I'm but a lowly reptilian expert in the Basic Edition. <tips tiny hat> Actually, they're telling me I misspoke. Apparently, I'm an amphibian.

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

I'd call it simple because we just ignored the convoluted stuff. What we ended up with was simple.

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

For me? Because we freely threw out any of the rules from 1E we didn't understand or like, which mostly left us with 5E!

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

Wait -- which thread is that? I don't know what the heck is going on here half the time....

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

Played it. Loved it. We did NOT use all the rules.

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

Prime example of why there needs to be a DM, and the DM needs to be all-powerful. As Shadowdark puts it, "The only Rule is that you make the rules."

    D&D General Games Economies

There have never been enough, or a greater enough variety, of magic items in the official D&D books, IMO. I always, always feel that I have to create custom pieces, especially for adventures between levels 1-5, because to your point, it can't simply be about +1, +2, etc. That's too adolescent...

How long before VTTs support TTRPGs with AI GMs?

This is part 4 of the ChatGPT D&D 5e game I started yesterday on this thread for people curious about how far along AI has progressed in the past couple years. If you're just showing up to this thread, this is a simple demo of me playing a solo D&D adventure with a modern AI as the DM. I'm not...

    D&D General Games Economies

Years ago I started using a trick in my D&D games where I began to think of silver pieces as US dollars. GP as $10. Etc. Grounds it in reality, I guess. By simply thinking of coins as dollars, it changes the thought process for me. I stopped giving out 10,000 GP for random encounters...

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

FYI, moved this to a different thread per mod request to get it out of this one. https://www.enworld.org/threads/how-long-before-vtts-support-ttrpgs-with-ai-gms.715526/

How long before VTTs support TTRPGs with AI GMs?

Ongoing excerpt from the 5e game with ChatGPT today. First example of combat. 🌩️ The storm thrashes harder through the chapel rafters. Lightning flashes, throwing stark light across the broken altar where the Moonstone Shard rests. It pulses faintly now, no longer binding the child — but...

How long before VTTs support TTRPGs with AI GMs?

BTW, if I'd asked it to create guardrails and set a safe word required to break the veil, told it to cut down on superfluous rolls, anything else, it would have. Refining the experience is as easy as asking for what you want. I'm not suggesting it's perfect, but it's certainly better than...

How long before VTTs support TTRPGs with AI GMs?

Wow, I don't see any of that at all. I don't think it's a flawless experience, but considering how imperfect games with actual humans are, as well as the fact that I spent a combined 2 minutes on the thought I put into it and my prompts, I think it's pretty darn good! I know based on my...

How long before VTTs support TTRPGs with AI GMs?

Here's the continuing saga of the quick 5e ChatGPT game I started earlier. This could get lengthy to continue pasting into the thread, but I think you get the gist of it. It's kind of remarkable, IMO. What I'd hope doesn't get lost is that AI is at the point now where you can refine it along the...
