Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

There are so many real issues related to AI, and most of them are unavoidable. Yet again, humanity is wading into a maelstrom of its own design. If not in the U.S. first, then someplace else. If not now, then next year. Sooner or later...miracles and nightmares.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I haven't tried it yet, but dang, did they have to call it Guinness Zero?? The name just doesn't exude "Guinness" to me. Like, maybe something like Guinness Free Stout or Guinness Echo instead....

    Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

As an aside, I just stopped by a local games shop and contemplated getting the SD DM screen (didn't pull the trigger but still might). I've created many homebrew game systems in my life (for personal use with friends, never published), but if I were to envision the perfect game, SD is close...

Would be interested in hearing more about this as it progresses.

It isn't intended to be literal, IMO. Very little about the mechanics of most games is truly realistic. The purpose of torch time is primarily to enhance the drama, not to imitate real life.

Normally, I'd agree, especially when it comes to 5E and other additions of D&D. The timer is pretty foundational to the SD experience though. I don't look at that game as just another OSR-like game. It stands well apart in its own niche to me due to the total package it offers.

Hmm.... It is though, because as @Mannahnin said, @Whizbang Dustyboots didn't indicate that the use of multiple timers eliminated tension (note: you did say 'lacked tension,' not reduced tension). I'd be curious to hear more from @Whizbang Dustyboots about how the use of multiple timers...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Naw, not horrifying. You'd be the talk of the town! Multimillion-dollar sponsorships up the wazoo, your own hit talk show, podcasts -- not ONLY because you'd have an adult's intellect, but also because you could predict future events over the next ~40 years (depending on how old you IRL now)...

Toon!!! I haven't thought of that game in 30 years!

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

Absolutely. I bet there's an inverse correlation between complexity (above a certain sweet spot baseline) and the size of the market for a particular game. More complex means fewer people who will actually be interested in playing it.

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

I think it's both -- a pendulum, AND that there are more and more systems getting published. The RPG community isn't above going through fads or renaissance periods of nostalgia over things that were first popular 30 years ago, bringing them back in favor for a while. But it's also very true...

    Acquisitions Inc. switching to Daggerheart

I assume this has already been mentioned, but I feel like it's probably the cards and the plastic molding in the Core Set that are making that more difficult than usual to produce quickly enough to keep up with demand. By including the cards and whatnot, that's probably complicating production...

How about when I said... And you said... You sound very upset about something, like you've been burned in some way by a bad experience with a DM?

Someone's getting fussy. Perhaps you should. Then maybe you wouldn't have such a bizarre view of D&D DMs. Noted. I'll try harder.

D&D General The Great Railroad Thread

No, my response and yours are absolutely not the same things. You truly must believe that Mercer's D&D games are too railroady for you because I've repeatedly described my style as like his (I do prefer a bit more action, but in terms of treating and working with my players, same). I try to run...

D&D General The Great Railroad Thread

Do you promise you're being 100% sincere right now? Swear on your favorite person's eternal soul? Because I suspect that if you truly don't get what I meant, then you don't want to. But if you promise you're being sincere, let me know and I'll respond in kind.
