    D&D 5E (2014) Thievery in 5e - still relevant?

I think people choose an archetype such as Thief for the fun of roleplay rather than hoping for mechanical advantage.

D&D General What is player agency to you?

Much better! The player agency club is lead by a delusional, gather fat rather than gold from fight, and Use fat to build bombs to blew up the whole DM setting!

D&D General What is player agency to you?

I just step in the Thread, it seem that the Player agency is a secret organisation that run the game over the DM head.

    D&D 5E (2014) When Players Are Indecisive

You describe frightening criminals and PCs are acting with caution. Seem right? The PCs try to conceal themselves but the DM seem ready to send an assassination squad. Maybe players fear harsh consequence of any errors they could make?

D&D 5E (2024) They need to bring back Gather Information in One DnD.

using an ability check Int, Cha or Wis depending on the information need and the context is quite enough. most of the time adding proficiency if trained in Investigation will be fine.

D&D 5E (2024) With Weapon Mastery likely making it in, do you want optional exotic weapons and exotic weapon masteries?

Returning weapon are magical. Go see some boomerang throwing on utubes, you will see that throwing a boomerang in a dungeon is pure fantasy and magic. But I agree to more mastery. Don’t need exotic weapon to add them.

D&D 5E (2024) We have Arcane, Divine, and Primal lists now. Why not Psionic?

Fantasy psionic can do anything. So we need a spell list with all the spells! Unfortunately psionic fans want psionic not a spell list like other casters.

D&D General Lethality, AD&D, and 5e: Looking Back at the Deadliest Edition

I find Gygax very pragmatic in his depiction of the game. His multiple warning usually make sense. House rule is not a magic solution, most of the time it’s only a trade off. And the more you house rule, the more you may paint yourself in an isolated corner. Power hungry players still exist, and...

D&D General Lethality, AD&D, and 5e: Looking Back at the Deadliest Edition

I read again the foreword and first Pages of 1ed DMG. what I see there is an invitation to enter into an experience of imagination, fantasy, creativity. Gygax describe his process to handle the game like an amazing discovery and try to communicate it and invite other DM to join the hobby. At...

D&D General Lethality, AD&D, and 5e: Looking Back at the Deadliest Edition

I don’t follow CR at all, but I knew there been some PCs death. It spread like an important new, a kind of national drama! Dying is less view like a failure, but a part of a bigger show.

D&D General Lethality, AD&D, and 5e: Looking Back at the Deadliest Edition

My view on lethality for editions. 1ed. Vietnam war. The DM is the sergent, the players the recruits in a Boot Camp. reference movie: Full metal jacket. 3ed. The players have at last access to the rules. The key to survive was the rules mastery, and often the fierce fight was not against...

D&D General Lethality, AD&D, and 5e: Looking Back at the Deadliest Edition

That time was pretty much schizophrenic. Post Vietnam war, post Peace and Love, on the edge of the first oil crisis. Can we be a hero? Maybe the answer was not so obvious at this time.
