    D&D General Humanoids...and world demographics

It is the way for me too. To describe using common reference. The local stadium, carnival, shopping streets. Once you describe the stadium, you let players imagine the rest of the city and country around.

    D&D General Humanoids...and world demographics

Actually I prefer to think into concrete facts. There is 20 inns in this town. In this harbor a cargo ship arrive and start almost every day. This kingdom sustain a professional army of 10 thousands soldiers. We see elven travelers here once or twice a year. Describing by numbers don’t help...

    D&D 5E (2014) Handling Morale Checks

I agree to your view, but sometime retreat is not a matter of hit points. Some monsters may reason that they won’t win the fight and sometimes morale flinch even before loosing hit points due to magical effects or the like.

    D&D 5E (2014) Handling Morale Checks

Right before the fight a DM can make a morale check to see how willing to fight are the monsters. On a fail then the DM use any event he judge appropriate to make monsters retreat, flee or surender. The same way DM can use a tactical check (int) to to make monsters more or less efficient or...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

For the Drows my reasoning is simple. They will continue to produce material for The Forgotten realms. So Drizzt will still be a character in DnD. And Drizzt without the old classic nasty Drows is hard to sell. I don’t know how they will twist and wrap that, but old classic Drows will reappear...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

They could tag old Orcs and Drows as Fiend and keep them, but they don’t. Maybe they will release old orcs and Drows lore into supplements book for « mature» audience with warnings and disclaimer. Who knows? We will se in the coming year.

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

I can imagine the high council voting for the fate of the Orcs and the Drows. The members of the council are: The Arch mage master of the DEI arcana. The devil lawyer who represented the interest of the King Hasbro. The famous bard from the college of eloquence who knows all the social media...

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

I would spend some bucks to see the recording of the internal meetings when they decide to let the Orcs and Drow away.

    D&D General Tiered Enemies

I think it is pretty easy to have chains of opponents with scaling power. Bandit can range from 10 to 40 hp. With also scaling damage of course. Enforcer from 50 to 100. Cleaner from 100 to 150. All of those working for the same organization. And then you reach to the real big boss, and...

Is Losing your Turn The Worst That Can Happen

I think it depends on the table turn time. Loosing a turn when it take 30 mins or more to make a table turn is lamely long.

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Hate Monks (Less Than I Currently Do)

I play a half orc monk once in a orc-goblin adventure. I fluff all ki theme abilities into primal, instinct energy flow. Work very well.

    NPC Deception/Persuasion and player agency

A spell « like » dominate person can override PC agency. What power source is a spell like ability? Magic, psionic, high charisma, deception skills, that depends on the adventure Fluf and style.

The depiction on Melnibone and Elric in the first book can be matched with the Drow and Drizzt.

D&D General “‘Scantily Clad and Well Proportioned’: Sexism and Gender Stereotyping in the Gaming Worlds of TSR and Dungeons & Dragons.”

I don’t have surprise here. DnD don’t transform by magic players into kind and noble people. DnD is a system that allow to build, share and play fantasy. I have always seen this process as subversive and progressive because it implies that you get use to make your own judgement call. Maybe I’m...
