    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

A good snapshot of ONE of the games I am running and where the players are enjoying themselves immensely. Except for the part about the players game experience, which you know nothing about.

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

I don't see how this is the implication of what I wrote. A dragonborn. A walking dragon. A talking lizard. In my mind it will attract a lot more attention than a human in my human-centric campaign. Also, you are inferring quite a lot about how I run my games without much information to go by...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

I'm not the GM of most D&D worlds. And I really don't see why my campaign world would have to follow something that "most D&D worlds" do.

Yet people were literally burned at the stake for being witches due to superstition.

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Yes. As the GM I am the one who decides that and it shouldn't be controversial in the least that I as a GM has the authority to decide how the NPCs in my campaign react to things that happen in the setting I am running.

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Let's say I let a player play a dragonborn in my campaign where no dragonborn have existed before. From my viewpoint it could change the dynamics of the world dramatically. Almost everywhere that PC would go, people would be either terrified or fascinated. The common people might see it as a...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Thing is, what I read from what you wrote is "unless anything goes, you're not having fun." And I've been having fun for over thirty years curating my games and playing in curated games. Working within a box can ignite creativity that cannot be conjured if there is no box. Much like any other...

How well do you predict non-OGL/CC games will do?

I’d say that the most important ingredient for Free League success is business savy and being an early and successful adopter of Kickstarter. This made it possible for them to build a company that was trusted with other people’s IP. Even if the IP thing came later I do suspect that it is a big...

Coriolis is the game I know the least about. :)

How well do you predict non-OGL/CC games will do?

Disclaimer: I am a freelancer for Free League. I think non-OGL/CC games have a good chance of doing well, but maybe not Paizo levels of well. But a smaller company is nothing to sneeze at. Free League has been mentioned, both in the OP and in follow-ups. They are a good example of a company...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Having given this some more thought I figured that my stance is different between game systems. In the examples below I'll specifically adress dragonborn as it is an example that's been brought up in the thread. D&D - much anything goes, that's what players often want, eg. all the monsters in...

D&D General Would you buy an AI-generated Castle Greyhawk "by" Gary Gygax?" Should you?

Google has partly trained its AI on posts made on EN World, so I wouldn't be surprised if other AIs have done so too. So I assume Gygax's online style is in there, although to "summon it" you might have to invoke "in the style of Col.Pladoh". :D...

    D&D General DALL·E 3 does amazing D&D art

Wow, really cool! I'll take a good look at your stories! (I wrote Bitter Reach).

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

I am, believe it or not, aware of the fact that Tolkien wasn't a Dungeon Master, and that he didn't create Middle-Earth as a D&D campaign. Putting DM in quotation marks and adding a smiley was my feeble attempt at conveying a tounge in cheek post. With that said, in the 5e Middle-Earth RPG, all...

I still don't get it. What has Sam the DM's dislike of gnomes to do with any other campaign world out there? Sam as a DM decides what goes in his campaign world, not in every campaign world in existance. Sometimes a DM runs a game without input from players on how the world works, sometimes with...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

How so? I don't follow that logic at all. I parse it as a DM having limitations means that not all campaign worlds must have tharks.

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

A DM saying "no" is a positive thing to me. I want the GM/DM/Keeper/Referee to set limitations in their games. To me that is more interesting than "anything goes" because I feel that nothing becomes special when everything is available. Also, I feel that as my PC might well croak anytime I...

WotC Updates D&D's AI Policy After YouTuber's False Accusations

To me it almost seems as if the ragey Dr Who-videos are done before the episodes even air, laying ready to be released and to pick up the precious clicks of the outrage brigade.
