Here Comes The STRAHD DM SCREEN

The maps are indeed in the hardcover book. I like the thought of having them in front of me like this. The tables I can take or leave, the draw for me are the maps. /M

[UPDATED AGAIN!] CURSE OF STRAHD Will Be Available March 15th

I'm very excited. I loved I6. I enjoyed I10. I became engrossed in the Ravenloft setting, although I never managed to get a game together. The feel, the atmosphere, the gothicness, everything appeals to me. So this will make me a WotC customer again. /M

    OOTS 1018 discussion

I still love OotS, but the last story line has me itching for something to happen. Strange that, lots of stuff is happening, but I don't feel as if it is happening. For me it is standing still, gearing up for something to happen. I am sure this will play out differently when collected in a...

    Pathfinder 1E Playbook for PRD

I've tried using it, but I find the interface too "life like", too much like a book and a book shelf. I would rather that it was designed more as a tablet application, I believe it would be more effective to use. Also, it won't display in portrait, only in landscape which make the interface...

Congratulations to the 2015 ENnies Award Winners!

Congratulations to all who won Gold or Silver, and also to those that were nominated. I am surprised WotC swept the awards, and that Paizo "only" won 3 silver awards. But I am sure next year will be more "even", without a major new edition setting its mark. Also hope for more small publishers...

Paizo Announced Lovecraftian STRANGE AEONS Adventure Path

I am torn. I just wrapped up an 87 session Kingmaker campaign, and feel burned out on Pathfinder and adventure paths. But, among the changes I made to Kingmaker was introducing more Lovecraftian elements, so this interested me. I will have a close look and maybe the spark has returned in a year.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you happy with how WOTC's D&D department interacts with the fans (Frequency/ Transparency/Methods)?

I like that with Paizo. That and the superstar thing, which is a great way of vetting people while still keeping the fans in the loop. Paizo is the best at customer relations. I've seen them even being rather blunt with the fan base (regards missing material from Kingmaker) and no major uproar...

    Who Makes WotC's Adventures?

We produced an educational game for a large client some 15 years ago. When one of the upper management dudes got wind of the finished product, he stopped it because he hadn't been involved. We got green light after adding "Produced by X" first thing in the game. :D

    Who Makes WotC's Adventures?

So my take is that the adventures are produced in-house (utilising internal resources) and parts are outsourced, for example some writing and design.

    Who Makes WotC's Adventures?

Maybe not important, but interesting. I wonder how this compares to how Paizo is producing content? Is that all in-house or outsourced? Stuff like that are fun to know.

    Who Makes WotC's Adventures?

I'm not familiar enough with business English, so I'm wondering if there is there an amount of work "bought from outside" that crosses an outsource line? Like, 70% in-house, 30% freelancers = In-house. 30% in-house, 70% freelancers =Outsource? Or is any use of freelancers e.g. outsourcing?

D&D Still Leads ICv2's Quarterly Hobby Game Rankings

The subscription-based business model was the true genius of the Paizo play. It gives them a steady income, and a very predictable customer number to fit their printing to. So I think you, Ashran, is a very good representative of a Paizo customer.

    ICv2 numbers out

ICv2 just released the Hobby Games sales rankings. D&D at the top, and Pathfinder following. Star Wars strong, Shadowrun and Iron Kingdoms are stronger than I would have thought. http://icv2.com/articles/markets/view/32097/top-5-roleplaying-games-spring-2015 /M

    Crediting Contributors

I want to know upfront who has created what I am reading. That, in my mind has always includes the writer and the illustrator. The layout and the editor, not so much interest in that. But I think that putting them up front is a good thing, to make the readers a bit more aware of what goes into...

    DRAGON+ Now Available For Ratings

I'm happy to see WotC try out different ways of reaching out to their customers. Some things will work, others won't. I don't think they are "wrong" to use the name, as an avid White Dwarf reader I've seen this kind of transformation before and it's a thing that happens. No skin off my nose, or...

Hasbro CEO: "D&D is Really on a Tear"

Historically on EN World, when discussing how D&D is doing the fact that it almost never is mentioned in the financial reports (I think it has happened once in the last 15 years or so) is taken as an indication that D&D is small fry and not worth bothering with. It has been used as "proof" that...

Hasbro CEO: "D&D is Really on a Tear"

Probably because it wasn't singled out by WotC with a comment during earnings call at the time. This time it was singled out, which could indicate a difference in performance. /M
