D&D 5E (2014) Scooping morrus on the site

What kind of stuff have you been hearing? That it is in development?

New Mearls Article - Skills in D&D

I would like to see trained in knowledge and maybe expert. Expert would give access to the more obscure kinds of knowledge. There could be an expert section in the monster entry. I suppose there would be some dcs with a rider, trained only or expert only.

D&D 5E (2014) Scooping morrus on the site

Anyway the substantive part of the rumour was not debunked: that 5e is on the way. I suppose we knew that it is just a case of when though. Two years? Announcement next gencon.

New Mearls Article - Skills in D&D

These terms are used in 4e, are very common and are fairly simple. With any ruleset you are going to have to learn what the terms they use to describe elements in the game actually mean with regard to those rules. I don't see any way around that. As 4e goes - and the hypothetical example skill...

New Mearls Article - Skills in D&D

One of the interesting concepts that I hope they follow through with is that they are going to keep things modular. So you can use the skill talents or not and just use the basic skills. The great thing is that it will allow for different play styles and ease of house ruling. I can see a game...

New Mearls Article - Skills in D&D

You may have missed this: Your points are valid, but I wouldn't focus too much on the wording, it is really just a doodle and he mentions that. I doubt after all the designers and editors have a look it would be as absolute. I would use the DM slide rule and give him a +2 to his check, but...

New Mearls Article - Skills in D&D

I don't think you could mix the two styles. If one player has invested in a lot of skill talents the DM will have to be careful not to give these abilities to other players for free. It would be easy to allow only basic skills to those without those customisations though. I like that the skill...

EN Worlder gets cover credit on Mordenkainen's: how'd that happen?

Congrats all. Looks like a good book :D I'll be honest I came into this thread thinking that it was about me. I've never written anything for WotC, that's how egocentric I am!!

New Mearls Article - Skills in D&D

I love the new system. Especially skill talents. I'm running SWSE at the moment and the talents are great. Keep the base system very simple - and I like going back to ability scores, which were very neglected in my 4e game. I like the way this system is going.

    Critical Hits Article

I doubt the launch of 5e would be so low key. I suspect they will evolve 4e using the digital products and expand the digital stuff to cover previous editions. They might introduce some new stuff similar to essential classes. They might label them Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, but I think it...

I think I know who has the Star Wars license...

Currently running SWSE DOD. I only bought the books after they were cancelled, but I wish there had been more adventures made for SWSE. I wish Polyhedron was still around - in digital form. :D

    Teleportation at level 1

A nice deep oubliette with a solid trapdoor. Maybe some very thin light tunnels if I was feeling generous, but they would not allow for any line of sight.

Statblocks vs adventures: Where's the balance?

Why use subtraction for HP calculations? I keep a note of current HP damage total against each creature and compare it to their bloodied/total HPs. It is additive, easy to see when they are bloodied or dead, and with a bunch of monsters I have noticed an increase in my DM efficiency!! :D

    D&D 4E Venger (4e)

I've seen the first episode. I do remember it, so it is out there. I'd believe that the Dungeon Master could have been a human dwarf.

They need to relaunch these cartoons. Damn, they were good fun.

Thank Goodness: Moving away from the Delve format

I think keeping the delve format for a few key, important, or very complex compat encounters would be a good thing, but for most it is a pain in the ass. As in: "wow, that's a lot of reading for a small band of snotty goblins". When will be see the fruits of this delicious decision I wonder...

    Recent Dragon Mag Article Pulled?

I just read his Google Wave (??) comments and they are bad IMO. Very immature. Now, it doesn't mean he doesn't have something useful to say about kids and gaming, but the original article being pulled was a good idea. It could have been reedited to take anything about gender out and would have...

AMpersand #400 Bill S leaving WotC (and others?)

All the best guys. I've had a bad feeling the past few months something big - and bad - has been coming to DND. It's a very vague bad feeling though.

    Recent Dragon Mag Article Pulled?

I thought it was a pretty decent article. Newsflash girls and boys tend to be different. You can take what he says as observations and use them not to stereotype people - "but your a girl you HAVE to like the drama", but as a way to cater for girls and boys that exhibit those characteristics. He...

My Brawler Fighter and how fellow players complain

I like the idea of a bad-ass, ripping up bits of the scenery and bashing the bad guys with it: rocks, chairs, flag poles, bowls, rope, cacti, branches; every tavern brawl would be a massacre! Actually reminds me of Jet Li in Romeo Must Die. I like the character concept.
