    Save or suck Medusa petrification

This is the problem though. DND Medusa race is not the Mythic Medusa. It's loosely based on the mythic one, but it's its' own thing. Medusa's sisters looked similar to her but could not turn people to stone.

Monsters with spell lists is not a good sign

I still remember statting a bunch of 6th level Cult of the Dragon wizards for my FR game in 3e <shudder>. I hate that kind of fiddly admin. I know there are people that love stating spellcasters out, but having to memorise all the spells or make a huge pages of notes - 6th level wizards get a...

    Advantages / Disadvantages

God I wish i could get my players to stop rolling dice. They do it at the drop of a hat. I can see that rolling x2 die will be x2 the fun.

    Save or suck Medusa petrification

I vote that the Medusa Queen is a unique creature that can turn you into stone instantly and will often hide in shadow and jump out and say boo!! Her children, and their progeny; all the other snake haired Medusa chicks, don't have her power, instead they slowly petrify you or have other...

Monsters with spell lists is not a good sign

I've no problem with monster using spells. I do have a problem with having to memorise all the spells from the PHB or having to do a tonnes of prep time to run the damn things. If they include an easily referenced block so I can run them at the table, great. Yes, they take up some extra space...

Monsters with spell lists is not a good sign

Add me to the list. Could be a deal breaker for me too. On second look I like the monster format sans the stat blocks. I assume that they didn't use any formatting on he stats because it is the play test and, as someone mentioned, monsters are far from being done. Spell lists just slow down...

    The playtest has begun

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see any difference between calling for an ability check and a saving throw. Both use the ability modifier and both use a DC set by the DM (unless there is an opposed roll of course). Seems no point in calling it a saving throw really.

    First Impressions?

I like over all: - Rituals have been folded into spells. So you can memorise it or spend the dough and take your time. - Race/Class/Background/Theme seem to work well together and give you a bunch of interesting options. - At will magic (cantrips) are interesting and get a thumbs up. - Monster...

There doesn't appear to be any mechanical difference between Hill Dwarf and Mountain Dwarf. It could be a typo though.

Bah. First big disappointment with the packet is the Monster formatting - back to the dark ages. It's like 4e never happened. NPC's have spell lists again <yuck>. Hopefully that will be improved. I'm happy with the rest of the packet though. Seems very streamlined, looking forward to seeing...

There is a decent amount in the packet - I was expecting less - characters can level to 3rd. Reminds me of the Red Box.

Urgh Detect Magic is back as a spell.. not sure if I like. If you've search while logged in I'm not sure a direct link would work. It probably means you haven't been given access yet. Not comfortable posting a direct link.

The terms of service mention "not creating derivative material" for it. I assume this means monsters and the like. Waiting for the download link now,

    D&D 5E (2014) I don't like Dragonborn: Please stay away from D&D Next.

Luckily - as you can see from your own poll - you are in the minority.
