I think that useing more 4e would have been better. I believe that 5e is a major improvement of 3.5 but a step back from 4e... adding more 4e would make 5e better

I was a warlock and my 1st magic item was at level 6ish a clock of protection... I was InTeens before I got a +1 implement

Some times only 1 some times 2 or 3... We sucked though, we all had low stats well below average magic items and we had 1 guy I swear was fudging his dice to miss

Did you ever play at CT... because in 97 and 98 I heard it a lot. I had a friend (I meet through VtM at a con) who refused to call actually 3e 3e but instead called it WotC edition. I also when I told a joke about him at Gen Con the year 3.5 came out one of the guys at the table I was at said...

I didn’t break any edition up... I know that in 90s enough people called skills and power “3rd edition” that at local cons it had caught on...3.5 I think is the only one I count because it is a total overhaul of the phb classes, not just new options edit: I would be fine with calling a truce on...

When we were triple xp at teens we still didn’t level every session. Close but not quite

The game in questions WAS 5e. That DM also runs at a store (or did pre covid). And he has done double xo

I like the psi die mechanic. If it doesn’t make it for Psionics I hope it makes it for another righter type

4e came out in 2007 according to google (the older I get the worse I am on dates so maybe) and I said in last reply the 2e start date was off... I did not include 5e because it is far from over (I hope)

The last 1e book was 86 not 89. I didn’t include basics in my timeline but you may be right about 2e starting in 89 not 87 I think I miss read that one.

I have never had a lv1-lv20 campaign in any edition Except 4e where we did 1-29 once on the adventure path ... we normally start at 3rd Level or 5th and cap out between 12 and 16... about a year ago I played in a game where at level 9 the DM doubled xo rewards then at level 16 tripled them...

so 4e had from 2007 through 2014 about 7 years (some months through that off so maybe only 6 depending on how you count... but maybe 8 if generous from play test) is 6-8 (average 7) years a long or a short time for editions... well it depends on how you look at them. 1st edition started in 77...

What if it also had enough hp (unlike the familiar) to take a hit or two and had a minor combat ability too (like a d4+2 slam attack or a throw poo to do a ranger distract/aid)

That’s okay my PCs always hit above there weight class anyway... I once threw 2 pit fiends at a 11th level party (6 players 1 cohort like add on) and they killed one bloodied the other before retreating with only 1 dead PC

It was the best designed version of D&D and the only one that had to complete with its own former edition. It still sold well (even by late 2e and all of 3e standards) but was hamstrung by piazo doing the whole 3.5 continued... if piazo has not done that we would still be moving forwards...

4e was anything but a disaster

I actually like YOUr mythic Tiamat and have it saved to use if we ever play in person again (with my bones malendrakar) so I respect that you did do better. I just don’t think we should HAVE to make a dm call on all things like this

Because it is weird. I do t understand. I get I can house rule it to make it work better (already have) in fact I think when I get home I may post my Dragon Knight Hero who is mythic my PCs have fought twice to a stand still... he is awesome... I just think we can all comment on the issues and...
