    D&D 5E (2014) [Let's Read] Azrael's Guide to the Apocalypse

The original Dragonlance adventures. Curse of Strahd. The r/rpghorrorstories subreddit. Veterans of these tales are all too familiar with the concept of the DMPC, or an NPC ally who tags along with the party for an extended period of time. They receive much condemnation in the tabletop fandom...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Let's Read] Azrael's Guide to the Apocalypse

Our adventure begins with the deaths of the PCs. The circumstances of how they died are left to the players, who describe what was happening themselves. Each such scene is individually acted out, although the DM is encouraged to give the player as much autonomy as possible in determining the...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Let's Read] Azrael's Guide to the Apocalypse

You're very welcome! I don't know how long this one will take, but I have some others in the backlog I want to clear out before 2023 ends. If I had to think of a close enough comparison, I'd pick the Doom series. But it's kind of hard to be too scared when you realize that the monsters should...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Let's Read] Azrael's Guide to the Apocalypse

While in other Let’s Reads I’d move on to the next chapter, on KickStarter I picked up some exclusive add-ons for Azrael’s. One of them is already released, a short 8-page PDF of an in-universe newspaper chronicling how the Antichrist got to power and changed the world for the worse. It can thus...

Weird Wastelands - 3rd Party Review

That was a pretty neat read. I can't honestly say if I'd use it in any of my own campaigns, but I do like seeing more navigation and survival mechanics. I'm partial to anything that strengthens the Exploration and Social pillars of 5th Edition. I'm partial to Monte Cook's Ptolus, which...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Let's Read] Azrael's Guide to the Apocalypse

Note: This product isn’t yet available to the general public, but it is available to KickStarter backers. 2nd Note: I don't have a religious background and am reviewing the product on its merit as a gaming supplement. The relative truth/falsity of the Abrahamic and other faiths covered isn't an...

Weird Wastelands - 3rd Party Review

I'm doing well, can't complain. I'm planning on getting back into reviews this August after taking a bit of a personal vacation. I love the names for all the tiered locations, too. Last City of MAN and Toxic Alchemical Sump sound like something you'd see when browsing metal music albums.

    D&D 5E (2014) [Let's Read] The Delver's Guide to Beast World

A bit of thread necromancy, but a post on the KickStarter page went into their next project: an urban sandbox in Dungeon Town, plus a customizable delver wagon miniature. And a third card deck of illustrated characters, too.

Weird Wastelands - 3rd Party Review

Looking good! I love the last bit of artwork; never have I imagined I'd feel sorry for a purple worm. Regarding the BFG, I can see CharOps types to comb through the rules to get around its inherent limitations. "No, you see, this class feature's teleportation ability only references size, not...

D&D 5E (2014) My Curse of Strahd Homebrew

Putting the Domains of Dread into Eberron's Cosmology Image from Exploring Eberron Eberron has a rather peculiar interpretation of the Ravenloft setting and how I’m using it as part of my own Curse of Strahd campaign. So I figured to bring it up here. For sources I’m using Keith Baker’s own...

D&D 5E (2014) [Creative] My Homebrew for Adventurer's Guide to the Bible

Giant Lineage Revision In my review to the Adventurer’s Guide to the Bible, I noted that the Giant race was weaker than the other options on account that they have some rather situational abilities as well as a penalty in being unwelcome in cities. Not to mention being heavily designed for...

D&D 5E (2014) [Creative] My Homebrew for Adventurer's Guide to the Bible

Upon further thought, having Pharisees as an Allied faction so early in the game is rather strong in that they change 3 other factions to Allied, which the PCs most certainly haven't met yet. Changing the Allied faction to Sadducees for helping Rabbi Zakkai in Teredon feels more reasonable.

D&D 5E (2014) [Creative] My Homebrew for Adventurer's Guide to the Bible

Do Unto Others So this 1st-level spell is both incredibly wide-ranging but also in keeping with Jesus Christ’s teachings. It’s not unlikely that the party cleric and/or paladin will make use of it at various points throughout the campaign. Thinking of ways to use it requires quite a bit of...

Culture Feature: RPGs & Authors Beyond the Western Standard

It's one reason out of several, and I've actually been in conversations with some Native Americans on these kinds of topics, so it is something that does apply to various tribes. And I also pointed out in my post that even that isn't one size fits all. Kind of weird to assume Japanese media is...

D&D 5E (2014) My Curse of Strahd Homebrew

Altering Rudolph Van Richten's Backstory Art by Miles-Johnson of Deviantart. Ravenloft has had a rather troubled relationship in its portrayal of the Vistani, who explicitly borrow elements of real-world Roma people. Van Richten's backstory and motivating factor in becoming a monster hunter...

D&D 5E (2014) [Creative] My Homebrew for Adventurer's Guide to the Bible

Thank you; a lot of this has been bouncing around my head for a while since the review, and figured to put them all on digital paper to better organize them. The thing I would want help and input on the most is a less railroady version of the Way of the Cross adventure, although I'm saving that...

D&D 5E (2014) [Creative] My Homebrew for Adventurer's Guide to the Bible

Favored of the Lion and Sun Most factions give some form of tangible benefit for joining them. The Sicarii grant access to their assassination contracts, Zealots let you safely move through cities of hostile factions, the Sadducees grant access to NPCs with clerical magic, and such. But...
