    D&D 5E (2014) 10% of Phandelver mining wealth amounts to ...?

Enough for a comfortable lifestyle for as long as the mine operates? If they haggle for a 30% reward, I'd bump that up to a wealthy lifestyle.

    D&D 5E (2014) A noteworty gripe for 5e

I can try and identify some of the artists, just post the book and page #. Incidently, you can also buy prints of my PHB pics here (I'll upload my DMG piece soon): http://claudiopozas.zenfolio.com/

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the origin of the Nightmare?

Or *is* it without a head? The usual look for the headless mule could simply be because its head is obscured by the dense smoke it belches (well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!). Same thing with the saci having only "one leg" because it's lower body is a dust devil when it moves.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the origin of the Nightmare?

I think the succubus/incubus/nightmare family has a close relation in the Headless Mule: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headless_Mule

    D&D 5E (2014) Agility-based katana wielder: is it possible?

A bit late to the thread, but I'll say that the suggestion above of using a Monk + reskinned Quarterstaff is a stroke of brilliance.

D&D 5E (2014) Who wrote Lost Mine of Phandelver?

I love that LMoP is a sandbox-style adventure, not unlike T1 - Village of Hommlett. It's probably my favorite adventure format, and one I tried to use in my 4e Ravenloft adventure "Fair Barovia".

    D&D 5E (2014) DMG Excerpt: Creating a New Race

Off the top of my head: 1) +2 Str, +1 to Constitution. These stay as is. 2) Size: Large. This doubles the half-giant's carrying capacity and allows it to reach higher stuff. That alone makes it "feel" stronger than the half-orc, without needing a greater Str bonus. 3) Uncultured: Disadvantage...

D&D 5E (2014) How easy are skill checks?

The Noticing Threats section tells the DM to "use the passive Wisdom [Perception] scores of the characters to determine whether anyone in the group notices a hidden threat". In the Other Activities section it says that characters who turn their attention to other tasks "don't contribute their...

D&D 5E (2014) How easy are skill checks?

I wouldn't allow Help to affect Passive Perception. Help itself is an action, and that very definition goes against what a Passive check is about (no action). Now, you could allow for a Group check (everyone makes a check, half the group must succeed).

D&D 5E (2014) A Bit More on Subclasses from the Escapist

That's not really the case in 5e, because Proficiency Bonus increases based on your total levels. Your unarmed strikes will be deal a bit less damage, but the attack bonus won't suffer for it. And a couple of levels of sorcerer will give you 3 cantrips (let's say blade ward, dancing lights, fire...

D&D 5E (2014) A Bit More on Subclasses from the Escapist

If you want a wiser, Airoh-style "bender", you could easily build one up as a multiclass Monk/Sorcerer (or Wizard). Benders in "Avatar" tend to focus much more on their elemental powers than the average Monk of the Four Elements. Hmm... Now I'm thinking of a way to make ki and sorcery points...

Any non-evil cleric can take the Life domain, in case a DM doesn't feel like allowing the Death domain.

D&D 5E (2014) How much speed could a fast monk gain, if a fast monk could gain speed?

Yeah, but swap out Expeditious Retreat for Longstrider (+10 speed), and use Step of the Wind for the extra Dash.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D meets the Walking Dead

In the 3e Fiery Dragon adventure The Ghost Machine (published in To Stand On Hallowed Ground), a group of scholastic monks, the Brotherhood of Form, travels the countryside restoring ruined structures as part of their meditations. The problem is they are about to restore an evil relic called The...
