D&D 5E (2014) The Ravenloft Rule and D&D5; or how to control player power

That's within the spirit of the Dark Powers, certainly. But TU was never that much of a hassle. Sure, RL had its own TU table (where undead were harder to turn, and much harder to destroy), but the ability has always been useable few times per day. And when RL throws skeletons or zombies at you...

D&D 5E (2014) The Ravenloft Rule and D&D5; or how to control player power

I disagree that crippling all reliable class features was needed for RL. Fighters and Thieves, for instance, were barely touched. And Domains of Dread added RL-specific classes that had reliable abilities (Avenger, Anchorite, Gipsy...). You could even play a pretty straightforward Cleric or Mage...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Attack Wing details

Maybe it's a female (bird dimorphism FTW)? But the biggest change I see is the aarakocra sporting separate wings and arms. I know that'd make it easier to portray them wearing equipment, but I just loved the original Jeff Dee art from the FF. Also, that frost giant looks wicked!

    D&D 5E (2014) Live Q&A with D&D R&D

From the September 2013 document, this is what I see: Capable healers: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Paladin. Average healers: Ranger. Classes capable of mitigating personal damage: Fighter (with Second Wind), Rogue (with Evasion) Classes with builds that allow for mitigaton of personal damage...

Draco Historial - Dragons in D&D!

Yeah, those abilities would probably fall under the purview of a dragon-specific skill challenge. They can! That's what great about the 4e monster design: since you don't have to "show your math", as it were, you can just give a monster/NPC whatever ability you think is needed, without...

Draco Historial - Dragons in D&D!

They are a big part of several settings, either as allies during combat (Dragonlance, where a player could theoretically control a bronze dragon-riding PC) or as adversaries (Eberron's Argonessen dragons may be of any alignment).

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 04/25/2014

That's actually incorrect. PCs contribute to the Encounter Budget based on their level, so 5th-level PCs each contribute 200 XP and a 2nd-level PC contributes only 100 (numbers I just made up, BTW). So if your party is composed of four level 5 and 1 level 2 PCs, your encounter budget is 900 XP...

Draco Historial - Dragons in D&D!

    1) Dragons in 2e and 3e (the latter much moreso) were less "dragons" and more "Huge sorcerers with breath weapons". Specially in 3e, they didn't really *play* as dragons, because doing anything other than cast stuff like stoneskin, cat's grace, mage armor, cone of cold, etc, was akin to wasting...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 04/25/2014

Seems like a mix of the 3e and 4e approach. This is pure conjecture, but let's make up some numbers to wrap our heads around them: (THIS IS ALL MADE UP!) Kobold: Level 1 (1 Hit Die), CR 1/8 (8 can challenge a 1st level party of four), XP 15 each. Orc: Level 2 (2 Hit Dice), CR 1/2 (2 can...

D&D 5E (2014) Another simple question, this time about spell slots

Yes, Scourge of the Sword Coast comes with an abbreviated version of the last public playtest document, going up to level 10.

D&D 5E (2014) Another simple question, this time about spell slots

D&D's constant use of "level" sometimes mixes things up. So I'll explain using another concept: Let's say your character is a sci-fi gunsmith. He knows how to build a variety of guns, each with different effects (one shoots fire, the other shoots lighting, the other squirts oil, etc). But he...
