ELEMENTAL EVIL Player's Companion - FREE!

Fire genasi get Produce Flame, not a new cantrip. Compare these genasi with a variant human taking the Magic Initiate feat: Human: +1, +1, extra skill, 2 cantrips, 1 1st-level spell 1/day. Air Genasi: +2, +1, hold breath, 1 2nd-level spell 1/day. Earth Genasi: +2, +1, ignore difficult terrain...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell-less Ranger

I'm pretty sure 5e can handle a Swords & Sorcery game. Between Berserkers, Totem Warriors, Champions, Battlemasters, Thieves and Assassins, plus the variations allowed by Backgrounds, you have quite the range of character possibilites. If you push "low magic" a bit further, you can even include...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Dragonmarks thematically problematic?

Not hard to do, in Eberron's "commonplace magic" paradigm, which is nice.

    Pleased to oblige.

No, goliaths were created for the 3.5 sourcebook Races of Stone. Dark Sun had half-giants, but these were much larger and stronger.

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell-less Ranger

Spell-less ranger is easy: Level 2 - Hunter's Mark at will. Level 5 - +10 speed (as if at-will Longstrider) Level 9 - Trackless (at-will Pass Without Trace) Level 13 - Antitoxin Mastery (craft potent antitoxin once per short rest, works like Protection from Poison) Level 17 - Quick Shot Stance...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Dragonmarks thematically problematic?

Oooooh, I like modelling a dragonmark as an Alternate Reward!

Second 5th Edition Survey! Plus Results of the First Survey: The Ranger Gets Some Attention!

Looking over the 3e and 4e artificer, here's an approximation summary: - HD: as rogue - Armor: as rogue - Weapons: all simple weapons. - Skills: Four from Sleight of Hand, Arcana, History, Medicine, Perception, Survival, Persuasion. - Tools: Thieves' Tools, one set of artisan tools. Features: -...

Second 5th Edition Survey! Plus Results of the First Survey: The Ranger Gets Some Attention!

Let's take a quick look at the 3.5e ECS artificer infusion list, and see what it shows us of the class' spell prowess: So, the artificer's actual spellcasting was very limited, dealing mostly with imbuing temporary enchantments into weapons/armor, creating stuff out of thin air and...

Second 5th Edition Survey! Plus Results of the First Survey: The Ranger Gets Some Attention!

Not necessarily. And "item formulae" are already in the game in 5e, right? The narrative in this case is "I don't *need* spells to make artifacts". In the 3e rules, the artificer simply ignored the required spells when crafting items. 5e doesn't have that restriction, so they're already golden...

Second 5th Edition Survey! Plus Results of the First Survey: The Ranger Gets Some Attention!

But all of those examples are additive. You take the base class chassis and *add* different stuff (add more proficiencies, add more spells, add this power instead of that). The Artificer never actually had a Spellbook (for instance). In fact, the very first sentence in the Infusions description...

Second 5th Edition Survey! Plus Results of the First Survey: The Ranger Gets Some Attention!

But how far would it be worth to go in altering a class before it becomes easier to just make a new one? For instance, the Artificer would work perfectly over the Bard chassis (being, to use a 4e turn of phrase, another "arcane leader"). Bardic Inspiration is a perfect mechanic for on-the-fly...

    D&D 5E (2014) Eldritch Knight + Magic Initiate feat

There's nothing in the feat that prevents it. Just be aware that the 1st-level spell you get from this feat isn't added to your spellbook, and you can only cast it 1/day (and only at 1st level).

    D&D 5E (2014) Eldritch Knight + Magic Initiate feat

Yeah, all posts here are correct. I am fond of using the human feat at 1st level to "mimic" a character's future archetype (Magic Initiate for Eldritch Knights, Martial Initiate for Battlemasters). Let's you play with the character you want from Level 1.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

Most adventurers will shoot for the "Comfortable" lifestyle (small cottage or private room), which is 2gp per day. So the PCs go on an adventure for a week and each returns with 600 gp. This means they can enjoy the good life for 10 months. After that, they have to go at it again. If you keep...

D&D 5E (2014) How might you fix the beastmaster's animal companion?

Note that if you use the DMG optional rule for Flanking, the companion is a walking source of advantage. In addition to allowing a bonus action to command the beast, I'd allow it to sustain (to use a 4e turn of phrase) a few actions even without command. Either for free or by using the ranger's...

D&D 5E (2014) Does "Unarmoured Defense" work with Druids who are shapechanged?

Like I said, it's ultimately up to each individual table. Some (like me) won't allow it, others will go SKADOOSH!
