D&D 5E (2014) Guns and D&D - are we doing it wrong? An alternative

Guns - how to incorporate them in a D&D game? (for clarity, this is for low tech guns - muzzleloaders, not modern metallic cartridge weapons) So far the approach has been to have them be a bit like an "extra" crossbow - even more damage, even slower rate for fire. But then people want to...

D&D General Every core monster ever in D&D

I know they aren't 5e core, but I though the gemstone dragons were re-introduced in Fizban's?

D&D 5E (2014) The lazy fix to alchemists

So the one to compare to I think here is artillerist, who also doesn't get a second attack, but also gets a very similar damage boost at level 5 (arcane firearm). However, they do get increased damage via their turret (or tons of temp HP), so they are clearly ahead of the alchemist damage wise...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the highlights of D&D 5th edition for you?

I liked the decent class balance (nothing is perfect, but it's better than it used to be) leading to better intra-party balance, I liked advantage/disadvantage, bound accuracy, the 2e feel, the "medium" level of complexity. Some of the 3rd party stuff has been excellent. The various forms of...

D&D 5E (2014) Great scores weak subclass; strong subclass so-so scores

And a monk who's just as "good" as a paladin isn't exceptional?

D&D 5E (2014) Great scores weak subclass; strong subclass so-so scores

so you got great stats randomly, meaning you probably have the best stats of the party. Then you are going to compound that difference by building a power-gamer's PC. People rolling great stats building suboptimal characters is a great way to "even out" the party and remove some of the sting...

D&D 5E (2014) Turn 2 full casters into pact casters

The apothecary (a 3rd party class by the Dungeons of Drakkenheim crew) is an int-based "short rest" caster that uses int as the casting stat. I highly recommend it.

D&D 5E (2014) Great scores weak subclass; strong subclass so-so scores

it's not just for subclasses, but perhaps classes too - if you roll a great set of stats, it's time for a monk :D

D&D 5E (2014) The lazy fix to alchemists

Why would your AC as an alchemist be so good? Medium armor and shield is decent, the +1 AC boost is nice sure but... highest AC in the game? I don't see it. You don't have the shield spell, or other "special effects" that can really boost your AC very high. Am I missing something?

D&D 5E (2014) The lazy fix to alchemists

I completely agree with you that the main problem of the alchemist is that their main "shtick" is weak. If you compare all the other subclass features they are somewhat equivalent (to other artificer subclasses), but that can't make up for the weakness of the elixirs. What you're considering...

    D&D 5E (2014) Humblewood: A New Third-Party Setting on D&D Beyond

So the Dungeon Dudes talked a bit about this - they have a new class (the apothecary, it is very nice - it's basically "the alchemist done right, in all sorts of permutations" - the chemist (blaster), mutagenist (Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde), the reanimator...). And they are very keen for it to be on DnD...

D&D 5E (2014) Sudden Realization On Darkvision Wording

D&D 5E (2014) Sudden Realization On Darkvision Wording

As players get nonchalant about light, all you need to do is have an ambush where the attackers take out the single light source the party is using :D Personally though, I'm not too pleased by darkvision being SO common in 5e. It doesn't have to be this way. In some versions of the GLOG...

D&D 5E (2014) What if everyone in the setting had a [Class]?

I sort of feel we sort of have this already. An NPC could have the "social role" of warrior, and then they could be a guard, a thug, a bezerker, a veteran, a gladiator, a champion... it's worked for 90% of the warriors I've used in my game as NPCs
