D&D 5E (2024) Tier List. Barbarian Review and Ratings.

I was going to correct you, but I realized I misread it, you are correct. There is an "or" but the "or" option is quite limited. However, if your barbarian is standing near a ledge... ;)

D&D 5E (2014) What is the "Simple" Full Casting Class?

I really am struggling to answer, because each class has its complexities. Perhaps that is the answer, none?

D&D 5E (2014) What is the "Simple" Full Casting Class?

I find that the warlock is indeed a great class and good for a starting player that really wants to cast spells... BUT 1: I've had a player complain - they felt the "pressure" to keep their precious few slots, and were bored with pew pew (the player switched to a ranger and is much happier...

D&D 5E (2024) Tier List. Barbarian Review and Ratings.

Imagine an urban battle. The barbarian is on a rooftop, 30 feet above. He teleport a foe 30 feet above him, over the next street. So now the foe not only takes 6d6 falling damage, they have to run around a building to rejoin the combat. It's not going to work amazing in all battles, but...

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

... I'm not going to throw back the disingenuous thing back at you, but a LOT of people would disagree that what happened to Frodo, Sam, Pipin and Merry before they reach Rivendell wasn't an adventure! A lower level adventure sure, but still an adventure!

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

I think it's cool asking players what their one "dream" item is, and make it happen... buuut at the same time, if that dream item is a vorpal sword, they might not get to use it for most of the campaign. On the other hand, what I fear is a repeat of the 3.x /PF1e situation, where there was a...

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

This is a valid point... but it's a bit more... complicated than that, I feel. Sure, don't give your fighter a wand of wonder (... ok some players would love that, but let's suppose this particular player is not the type). If they don't like the item, don't see a use for it, it's mostly...

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

alas, this kind of thinking is not common. This is why level 7 traveling on a busy road between 2 large cities will encounter monsters that would make the road impassable, for example. There are a few campaign types that are naturally "rushed". Buuuut there are many other types where it's not...

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

See that's the thing. I think it's great that some campaign have strict timelines. I don't think every campaign should have those. The DM should be free to determine the pacing!

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

I do agree with you that massive gaps seem... unlikely. Maybe between "arcs" of the campaign? However, weekly breaks? Xanatar downtime rules, the bastion rules, they all seem to suggest that an occasional week long break is not that ludicrious, and I agree. For some campaign, a 1 week...

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

Some (not all) spells can be put in weapons or armor/shield. It's very good for martials. Attunement will definitely limit these items, and I anticipate high level characters will leave them behind. But at tier 1 and 2? they are great

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

And see, that's the thing. A shield that cast shield is a great uncommon defensive item. And it's not some kind of 4d-chess level idea, any clever 12 year old could come up with that combo. So if I, as the DM, am concerned about an excess of defensive items, and whenever my players try...

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

about 3 years ago I was in a campaign with a psi warrior. The GM was new and a bit too helpful, so he said "you are level 5, you can start with a headband of intellect". This is great news, because the psi warrior is a bit MAD. Then the DM told me "so just dump your int to 8, you don't need...

Not really?. If you are pushed prone, your movement doesn't automatically go to zero. And a lot of push effects are 5, 10 feet. You can move a foe 60 feet with this!

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

Attunement will help yes. I know the staff requires attunement by a spellcaster, but I believe that the weapon and armor/shield ones just require attunement by anyone. I do not like it when people build PCs that "need" a magical item to "work"

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

So Something that some people loooved about 3.x and PF1e, and some others (I'm mostly in this camp) didn't like was how easy it was to make and buy magical items. no longer are the items the PCs get uniquely in the control of the DM, the players get a say too! This thread is NOT about if this...
