D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd (spoilers): PC wants to be a werewolf

That's mostly outside the scope of D&D rules. I bet other games have mechanisms that might work for that - I wonder what's out there? I know FATE rewards you for making sub-optimal, role-playing choices.

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd (spoilers): PC wants to be a werewolf

Not the module, the boxed set. Most of us fans tend to reference the campaign world and it's specialized rules more than the original module. Anyway... Yeah, that's true. On the other hand, I'm having trouble picturing any non-WW werewolves that were anywhere near that power level...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd (spoilers): PC wants to be a werewolf

The original Ravenloft rules made it much harder to cure lycanthropy - you had to kill the original (non-infected) werewolf before trying, and the process could be fatal. In my CoS game I've been hinting at that by having the victims of werewolf bites drink the wolvesbane tea and make Con...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd (spoilers): PC wants to be a werewolf

Well, as a classic Ravenloft aficionado, I'd say - He doesn't turn CE right away - but every time he kills someone in were-form he has to make a CHA save or move one step in that direction. And once he's CE he should probably kill at least one PC in the night before running off to his new...

D&D 5E (2014) Aasimar guide (uh, the angel guide for the race, not a guide to being an aasimar)

If your player is really (really) into role-playing and character development - find out what the character wants to do and create a goal for the angelic guide that is in conflict with that. Voila, dramatic tension.

D&D 5E (2014) What can Heal actually heal?

You could probably fix a vasectomy with Regenerate. I think the caster would have to do so deliberately, though.

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd - Plot Help Request (spoilers galore!)

She already knows the PCs don't trust her any more because of the gifts, and (I'd have to check my notes) I believe one of the side effects made her not trust anyone any more. She wasn't evil before, but she sure is now. She's an NPC party member. Since I only had four players, I decided...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd - Plot Help Request (spoilers galore!)

So my PCs have gotten themselves smacked around in the Amber Temple sufficiently and are now ready for the Castle. HOWEVER - One of my party NPCs (an Eldritch Knight named Cyn), who I wrote up deliberately as the kind of person that is tempted by dark power, has gotten into the Amber...

D&D 5E (2014) Wall of Force Reality Check (as used by DM not players)

I vaguely feel that there's a difference between Wall of Force, which blocks energy and attacks that pass through it, and globe of invulnerability, which specifically neutralizes spells altogether. The easy solution is just to buy a +3/4 Indirect advantage on your spells, and then they...

D&D 5E (2014) Wall of Force Reality Check (as used by DM not players)

Leomund's Tiny Hut actually seems to do a better job of describing how the impenetrable barrier operates. I'd suggest using the one to inform the other.

    D&D 5E (2014) Yawning Portal monsters?

Nah, it's because it's actually true to mythology. I remember some author (Piers Anthony?) commenting on how many fey creatures seemed to exist solely to have sex with mortals.

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd: Giant Raven vs. Giant Bat

Ravens don't work for Strahd, they work for his enemies.

    D&D 4E Thing I thought 4e did better: Monsters

(Disclaimer: not a 4e player) I don't think the strength of 4e's monsters came from the stat block so much - it's not that hard to make an orc into an orc reaver. The hard part for many DMs is conceiving of the orc reaver in the first place - what makes this gnoll with a glaive special...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd - Need some rules lawyers

Most DMs I've heard of didn't think that would count as "running water" for purposes of the vulnerability. But if your DM likes killing vampires by turning the shower on, that's his right. It definitely wouldn't have worked in a rule-heavy edition like 3.5/PF.

    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

It has occurred to me that the treasure table shifts at the same level where the DMG assumes the campaign style is supposed to change. When the party is levels 1-5, the treasure they earn basically covers living expenses, adventuring costs, and saving up for that full plate. Then they hit...

    D&D 5E (2014) Night Hags and Succubi

That's what happens when you make monsters out of separate legends to describe the exact same sleep phenomenon.

    D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd spoiler-filled general discussion

Had not seen that rule - thanks! I wonder what would be easier - getting the druid to 9th level so she can cast Greater Restoration, or going three days in Ravenloft without anything bad happening.

    D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd spoiler-filled general discussion

So... my party decided to go dig up clay golems at the ruins of VR's Tower to farm EXP to get to 8th level. One crit and one other hit, and two failed saves, later - and the paladin is permanently down 38 HP until he gets a Greater Restoration. Which basically does not exist in Ravenloft as...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Eldritch Blast only targets creatures

If force damage were brute force it would be bludgeoning. There's clearly something more going on here. Disintegrate is force damage as well, correct?
