WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

I'm not sure what you're saying? That it does not count because it's tool old? That it doesn't matter because upper management did it? Because you didn't know about it, or not enough people knew? I feel I'm missing something important from your side of the discussion.

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

Oh, and that does not mention how Wizards contacted Penguin Publishing and talked with them about the deal it had with the authors, walking into some serious legal quagmires. So yeah... Stupid.

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

The OGL incident, the Dragonlance Debacle, and other less prominent things. While I have not worked for Wizards in any form and cannot comment on their management from a direct contact perspective, I have worked for CEOs, managers, AS a manager, and many other roles. I stand by my statement. I...

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

<frowns> I won't take that bet. The sheer stupidity of some of the actions of Wizards/Hasbro leaves me unable to say, "They would NEVER do that! That would be stupid!"

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

I find that Savage Worlds was more like Alternity than anything else I saw. And for the record, I loved that game. The books were the greatest new RPG of the time. Dark Matter was a bloody treasure, and StarDrive was a masterclass of a setting.

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

Looking through this, I also have to wonder if this is an internal power struggle in the company. While the primary layoffs happened at the same time, I have to ask: Does this have to do with the events of the last year and how WofC is being directed to deal with its properties? I mean, Occom's...

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

Our definition of gutting seems different. When I say gutting, it's not about numbers. I consider the creative skills of those fired, the effect on company memory (the idea of knowing where the moving parts are, and how they work), morale, and even external confidence in the idea they are not...

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

Also, wait... Something occurred to me... Did they just gut the only profitable part of their company? Is this suicide by cannibalism?

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

I'm torn. This general behavior is why I want Hasbro/WotC to implode, but I don't want the creatives and staff to suffer. It's turning into a bloody video-game company in mindset. In a perfect world, Staff gets parceled out into the general RPG development industry, and then WotC implodes...

Worlds of Design: Artifacts of Cosmic Power

True, also… World ending is a strange term. The world is a matter of perspective. A family might consider a thier household being ruined as world ending. Star Trek has multiple worlds ending each week.

Worlds of Design: Artifacts of Cosmic Power

All of this is true, but ignores the fact about the end of the world: it’s almost never a total end. It’s just a part of the cycle where empires rise and fall. Rifts is a great/terrible example. World ended, and every monster showed up to party. World was ruined, nearly everybody died, and… the...

    Peregrine's Nest: Using the Canon

We did the same thing, with the characters finding themselves the the dark forest with the forest guardian unicorn, and him choosing the kender as the first archedruid in hundreds of years. They kept fighting a halfogre named ho’rogeth that they kept literally tripping over, who was enacting the...

Player Core and Gamemaster Core Remastered Review

I mean, then don't use it. We go old school: you can only get knocked to 0 hp, unless the attack is for over half the characters total hp. Then they save or die. After that, they bleed 1hp per turn until -10, and go poof.

Player Core and Gamemaster Core Remastered Review

Honestly, I always thought clerics should use charisma, and paladins wisdom. Clerics are the face of the church, and paladins the sword. Makes more sense.

Player Core and Gamemaster Core Remastered Review

Keep in mind, the rework was planned, but got focused on as a matter of self defense. Let us not forget January, and the utter cluster chaos that brought. I personally bought this the moment it hit a store. Just waiting for it now. And now for the obligatory complaint: Really? Witch before...

RPG Evolution: Wait, Are We Still Role-Playing?

It's just the evolution of something that's been happening for years. Back in the day, I was publishing during the d20 3e days. Did it for two years. Then made more in a month than in Second Life creating custom simulators for clients in a month than those two years combined. Part of that was...

Kobold Press Releases Black Flag Reference Document

I just find it funny they renamed it Tales of the Valiant, but people seem to like the temp name better. ... Well, I liked Black Flag better.
