    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

All I really need in a D&D game is a set of rules that allow me to provide a better "feel" for a simulationist mode of game play for those grim-n-gritty "pink eye" campaigns while also allowing me to cut back the detail in the rules for a more beer-n-pretzels style campaign. I don't think any...

    D&D 4E Edition Experience - Did/Do You Play 4th Edition D&D? How Was/Is it?

I forgot the whole GSL debacle for 4e. They bit themselves in the rear-end with the GSL because (I don't recall if it ended up being done in practice) they were demanding that 3PP who were doing 3.x stuff under the OGL needed to stop using the OGL for non-4e products if they wanted to develop...

    D&D 4E Edition Experience - Did/Do You Play 4th Edition D&D? How Was/Is it?

Played one session of 4e. Hated it. Hated the marketing surrounding it which felt like it was implying that people who didn't like 4e were stupid. Hated the active removal of archived 1e - 3e stuff on the WotC website. They actually went out of their way to hide or delete tons of adventures...

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

I'm also so tired of the "I want my character to be x and have y and do z" expecting DMs to change their campaign for that player. No, I'm not handing out a +1 flaming kukri in the treasure in this funeral cairn the party has broken into - the campaign is thematically middle ages british isles...

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

And at the time, every month or so, we'd get a "hey, I just picked up this new Complete xxx and I wanna use Feat yyy from it." or "the YYY book is out, I think I want to rrebuild my character into ridiculously overpowered PrC zzz - you need to design a rebuild quest."

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

I disagree - it is overpower along with a glut of options. There is no way that WotC ever play-tested every possible combination of options from all of their supplements and too many DMs were unwilling or unable to Rule Zero supplements. It also didn't help when they started taking campaign...

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

I pretty much enjoyed every 3.x book except Tome of Battle and Magic of Incarnum. The whole "maneuvers and stances" structure felt too limiting and at the same time too much like magic. Incarnum felt too much like trying to meld magic and psionics without being either. I think that, like a...

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

We just need to make sure that one of the 4e options isn't "I didn't really like it" but "my hate is to infinity."

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

That would be a house rule, not RAW. I'd love to hear what house rules were most popular at the time

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

Only issue here is those particular abilities do stack because they aren't divine bonuses. Axiomatic makes a weapon lawfully-aligned and infused with the power of law. Holy makes good-aligned and imbued with holy power. Sacred sheathes the weapon in positive energy. The stacking bonuses for...

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

So - I've played every edition starting with B/X/BECMI and AD&D 1e. I love the tropes behind the earlier editions (different xp progressions, race/level limits, etc.) 3.x made the math easier (positive AC progression, BAB, etc.), but introduced way too much player choice, resulting in long...

What makes a good map good?

Yep. For a VTT, having a wow factor definitely helps engage the players. I've no problem with "poetic" maps for the players. As a DM, it's more important to have info on the map instead of having to search the text for it. It also allows the DM have more "variety" when describing the...

What makes a good map good?

    1. The little scale in the corner? No big deal. When building maps in CC2 with Mappa Harnica, you can always throw a grid underlay on it. 2. North at the top? The typical interior map in Harnic style is usually a portrait instead of a landscape. That being said, it is entirely possible to...

    Compare that to this:

What makes a good map good?

Depends. If you have CC2, the Mappa Harnica templates are free to download. That give you all the macros, styles and templates. You can print any map in CC2/CC3. I normally do them in CC2/MH and then import into CC3.

What makes a good map good?

Again, the Harnworld mapping style has got you covered... They have specific symbols to overlay to show am outline where other levels are, including a level just for the roof.
  18. 3

What makes a good map good?

Utility and cleanliness. The indoor mapping style in Harnworld products is the golden standard by which all others should be compared. Clean black and white. Clear symbology that allows you to glance at any detail and understand what info it is conveying. Need to know how tall the ceiling is...

D&D 5E (2014) (+)What Ubiquitous DnD Tropes Get It Totally Wrong?

I think there are ways to have a happy medium between core D&D mechanics and, say, Phoenix Command's modeling of the physics of each weapon, each location and each effect in excruciating detail.

D&D 5E (2014) (+)What Ubiquitous DnD Tropes Get It Totally Wrong?

Except I'm not talking about between battles. These conditions occur in the middle of combat - no chance of resting while in the middle of dodging a club being swung at your head...
